UOI What happens to water after we have used it? Where does it go

UOI
What happens to water after we have used it? Where does it go after we
have used it? Can used water be used again? Is it possible to clean the dirty
water and use it again ?To answer these queries posed by our first graders
in the initial weeks , we visited the ‘Sewage treatment plant’ in our school.
The students were taken through a guided tour of the STP plant and
explained the process of dirty water getting cleaned and made usable, in
detail. To reflect their understanding they illustrated the complete process
through a flow chart describing each step in detail.
In an attempt to sensitize our students to water problems we read an online
story ‘Tommy learns water management’.
https://www.storyjumper.com/book/index/19067428/Tommy-learns-WaterManagement-#
The book gave them an insight about the water issues around the world and
why it is important to save water. They inquired into the different problems
caused by the scarcity of water i.e drought and health issues and found out
that Australia had the most scarcity of water. It was nice to hear Reet and
Ayush share that they would play Holi with dry colors. Lavanya was so
excited that she made the save water poster which lead to a wave of
enthusiasm amongst the students as they were seen making posters and
rhymes on the same. Kudos! to our young citizens.

Game ‘Hop On’
Math:
Children enjoyed playing the game
‘Hop on’. They took turns to throw the
bean bag to a numbered square and
hopped on each number till they reached
the bean bag. Children counted in 5’s and
10’s. Our young mathematicians were
excited about the game so much that
they wanted to play it forever.
Young learners took turns to roll a pair
of dice .They found the difference
between two numbers by subtracting
the smaller number from the bigger
number and jumped those many steps
backward. We made the game
interesting by challenging them to jump
with both feet or by hopping on one foot
.Children later recorded the difference
between the numbers in their jotters.
We practiced analysing data
represented in the form of a pictograph
representing a weeks’ rainfall details.
The children were able to answer
questions based on the given graph.

Language:
In language this week, children learnt
the diagraphs that make the long ‘u’
sound: ‘ue’, ‘ew’ and ‘u_e’.
We began by singing the song “I’d like to
have a barbecue - with you, you, and
you.” Spontaneous singing always arouses
curiosity in our young learners and it was
a good start to learning these diagraphs.
They practiced making words with the
sounds using the letter cards.
Throughout the week, children were
heard repeating these words and looking
for more words with the long ‘u’ sounds.
They came up with some incredible long
‘u’ words, such as ‘Museum’ and Rescue!
Students were introduced to the ‘telling’
and ‘asking’ sentences through a game
of ‘Identify my sentence’. Each student
chose a sentence strip and after reading
it identified it as a ‘telling’ or an ‘asking’
sentence. They then placed the strip
correctly on the T – chart. Students
learnt that a telling sentence always
ends with a full stop whereas an asking
sentence ends with a question mark.

Rhyme time glimpse:
It has been a hectic week as
the students are working
very hard practicing for the
Rhyme Time day.
Hindi
Letter ‘अ’ and ‘प’ were introduced
this week. Students identified
the letters and wrote them later
with the correct formation. They
looked for the words with similar
beginning, middle or ending sound.
·Children wrote small sentences
using these letters. Eg. ‘अपने आप
खाना खा, पापा परदा लाना, पलक अब
माला ला’.
·They practiced reciting rhyme,
‘पानी बचाओ’, with correct
pronunciation and expression.
