Dear Parents/Carers,
School Reports
I would like to clarify the dates for the Parents’ Evenings as there was an error in last weeks’ letter. Parents’ Evenings
will be held on Wednesday 29th March and Thursday 30th March 2017.
Maths Videos
If you would like an insight into how we teach the written methods of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division,
then Mr Humphries and Miss Braye have compiled some support videos which are available on our website. Simply
click on the ‘Learning’ tab and select ‘Maths’.
Dogs
Please can we remind you that dogs are not permitted on the school site at any time with the exception of
prearranged visits by ‘Woofability’ or guide dogs.
Gates & Site Security
We would be grateful if parents and carers would kindly vacate the site promptly once their children have lined up in
the morning. It is important that we can lock the gates swiftly so that children can begin their learning as soon as
possible. If you need to speak with your child’s teacher, it is better to catch them at the end of the day or to speak with
the school office who will be happy to arrange for them to call you.
New Staff
In the last few weeks, we have welcomed 4 new staff members. Mrs Fenner and Mr Swift join our excellent team of
Learning Support Assistants, Mr Bitto joins us as ICT Technician and Mrs Smith joins our cleaning team. All four have
made a great start and we are delighted to have them as part of the Abbotswood team!
Thank you,
Mr Glenn Moore

To support ‘this term’s topic: A Step Back in Time’ , the children will be
visiting Testwood Lakes on the following dates:
As outlined in this term’s learning booklet, the date for our outcome is
Monday 13th February. However, due to the use of musical instruments, class outcomes will be at different times:
Tues 7th Feb 3AC, Weds 8th Feb 3LW,
Mon 13th Feb 3SS, Tues 14th Feb 3CW, Weds15th Feb 3KM.
We are asking for a donation of £5.00 from each child. Please use the
slip at the bottom of this page to return it to the office in an envelope.
Home Learning Challenges: Each half term, children will also be
able to complete some optional home learning. There will be five tasks
given, of which we would like children to complete a maximum of 3
pieces, which can be brought into school on Monday 13th February.
Our focus for these pieces of work is quality not quantity. Your child will
be rewarded with certificates based on the number of pieces of home
learning they complete. These challenges can be found on the back of
the learning unit booklet. Your children have created some wonderful
pieces of home learning so far in Year 3 and we are excited to see
what they will come up with this half term!
4RM and 4EH at 1.45-2.30
4DH, 4KB and 4TT at 2.45-3.30
After the February half term, your child will be starting their next topic:
S.O.S Save Our Species. As an exciting hook in to this topic, we are
pleased to announce that on Monday 27th February, Year 4 will be
meeting local children’s author Martin Bradley and the birds of prey
from Liberty’s Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre. To support us with
providing this hook day, we would like to kindly request a donation of
£1. Our preferred method of payment is online via Tucasi. However,
you can also pay by cheque (payable to Hampshire County Council) or
cash (please put any money & cheques in a clearly marked envelope,
including your child’s name and class).
Thank you,
Thank you,
Mr A Claridge
Year 3 Leader
YEAR 5
Osmington Bay:
We are delighted to offer the opportunity for your child to spend a week
at Osmington Bay in Dorset with PGL. Located close to Weymouth in
the heart of the Dorset World Heritage coast, Osmington Bay comprises a 45 acre site with its own private beach.

YEAR 6
Order forms for the 10-Minute test bundles are available from Reception. We still have some of the Maths Study Books left for £1.00 each—
limited stock though; once they’re gone, they’re gone! Please note we
can only accept cash payments.
The visit will take place from Monday 9th October - Friday 13th October
2017 and will cost £240.50, which includes accommodation, activities,
food, extra adult supervision and coach travel.
We will be holding a short meeting about this residential on:
Wednesday 8th February from 4.30pm- 5.00pm in the Main Hall
This meeting will give you information about the accommodation, food
and travel, as well as examples of some of the activities that PGL offer
at Osmington Bay. We will also talk to you about cost and payment
dates.
Thank you,
Thank you,
