The orchestra has garnered a reputation for excellence in authentic, historically informed period performances. Led by artistic director & Grammy nominee Monica Huggett, the IBO explores the playing techniques and performance styles of the 17th and 18th centuries, using only baroque instruments or modern replicas. The resulting performances – filled with colour, simmering tension and highly charged emotion – are a vivid and fascinating glimpse of the sights and sounds of 18th Century Europe. Although the IBO has its roots in the past, it is a dynamic and constantly evolving organisation with its sights firmly set on the future.
