How to Create Snapshot for iSCSI Volume

To use iSCSI target backup you need to enable internal
RDX backup manager!
Internal RDX backup require a small 20GB non iSCSI
Volume for backup logs!
To run RSH commandos Telnet service on Cube and Telnet
client service on PC/Server must be enabled.
How to Create Snapshot for iSCSI Volume
A. Setup iSCSI Volume
1.
Create Volume that will be used as iSCSI target volume. Then setup iSCSI.
Volume Name: iscsivmware
Volume name: iscsivmware
B. Use the iSCSI Volume, for example, in VMware
Volume name: iscsivmware

Connect VMware iSCSI initiator.

Add Storage.

Enter datastore name.

Format.

Adding storage iSCSI volume is done.

Use the datastore, for example, install guest OS (Windows 7).

C. Create Snapshot
Mount the RDX media.
In Windows PC (for example: Windows XP or Windows Server 2003),
execute rsh command to create snapshot.
Syntax:
rsh <Cube_IP> -l <user> -n cmdSnapRDX <volume_name> del

del backup will be attached on media !
Example:
rsh 192.168.100.131 –l admin –n cmdSnapRDX iscsivmware
Command ->
rsh <Cube_IP> -l <user> -n cmdRDX
will eject this media!
3.
The RDX Disk Status will show job is running.
4.
Wait until snapshot process is done. Message will show backup is finished.
5.
The snapshot backup information will be shown in Log Record.
6.
The snapshot backup will be shown in Device tab when RDX media is
mounted.
D. Restoring snapshot backup
1.
Mount the RDX media. Click “Restore” in the row containing the snapshot to
be restored.
2.
Select the snapshot volume, for example snap_iscsivmware, and click
“ADD”. Then select the destination folder, for example: data/data. Click
“Restore”.
3.
The restore process will start. The RDX Disk Status will show job is running.
4.
When restoration is done, message will be shown.
5.
Verify restored data in the destination share folder.
