honors english iii, summer reading assignment

HONORS ENGLISH III, SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT
Required Reading :
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, JK Rowling
Brave New World, Aldous Huxley
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
Assignment: Along with reading the required novels, you will be expected to complete scheduled on-line
responses over each book. As you read, you should read actively: underlining, highlighting, and making notes
in margins if you purchase the book (actual novel or ebook) or maintaining a journal if books are borrowed
from the library. Books or journals should be brought with you to school on the first day.
What are you looking for to underline, highlight, and take notes on? Quotations that give information
and/or insight into character development, plot, conflicts, and societal influences would be a good bet. Your
reactions to events, impressions of characters, understanding of conflicts and beliefs about social values would
be very helpful in completing your on-line responses. Anything that strikes you as unusual or questionable or
interesting would be a great thing to note.
On-line Responses: For each novel, you will be required to contribute an on-line response based on
prompts posted on the website. For each question, you will be expected to submit a minimum 350 word
response making specific reference, including at least two quotes, to the story. All submissions should follow
basic MLA format requirements (pagination, heading, title, Times New Roman, size 12 font, double spaced
with 1 inch margins) and include in-text citation with a Works Cited entry. Responses will be assessed
according to the rubric on the back of this page.
Accessing Turnitin.com:
In order to submit your responses, you will need to log onto http://www.Turnitin.com and enroll in HONORS
ENG III. You will need the class ID: 6438910 and password: Falcons2015H
