Newsletter No 9
Dear Parents/Carers
Firstly, I would like wish everyone a very happy, peaceful and blessed Christmas! Have a great
holiday and I look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday 3rd January 2017.
Christmas Service
Thank you to everyone who came to support our service this morning – it was great to see the
church so full. Well done to our Year 5 and 6 pupils who did a great job leading the service and to all
the musicians who played for us.
Year 6 UNICEF Project
As many of you already know, our Year 6s have been raising money for UNICEF. They were so deeply
impacted by what they learnt with Mr O’Brien that they put their all into many fundraising projects.
As a class they have raised a staggering £2500 – an incredible achievement for one class. We are
extremely proud of them, not because of how much they have raised but because of their genuine
response to what they had heard and their attitude towards the project. Well done Year 6 for
showing real love towards others.
Year 5 Tea Party
On Wednesday, Year 5 held a tea party for those in the community who are over 65 and about 35
visitors came for an enjoyable afternoon. The children were excellent at welcoming and entertaining
our guests and we have had some lovely feedback, some of which I thought I would share with you:
‘The children were so polite, enthusiastic, confident and happy to engage in conversation. They are a
credit to your school and its principles.’
‘I particularly enjoyed being met at the door – such good manners - very politely offered tea and
coffee, shown to my seat, and then the opportunity to talk to so many lovely Year 5s.’
‘We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it brightened our week!’
Thank you to all those who gave up some time to come and support the running of the event. Well
done Year 5 – your efforts gave a lot of pleasure to those who came along and is another great
example of showing love towards others.
Listen2Me Concert
I had the pleasure of attending our Year 2 and 4 pupils’ African drumming concert – it was fantastic.
The children not only played the instruments but sung in different languages too. The rhythm work
was at times quite complicated but they performed really well and clearly enjoyed themselves. I look
forward to hearing the progress they make with learning the ukulele next term.

Year 4 Roman Day
Monday 12th December was Y4’s Roman Day. A Roman from the past, a man called Dominus, came
in and taught us some interesting things about Roman life, such as: they used sponges instead of
toilet paper! The Romans believed in Gods like Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Apollo, Diana and
Aphrodite. He also told us that Romans used the bath house to clean instead of having one at home.
Overall the class enjoyed the day a lot and learnt a lot of things – Thomas A and Cameron.
Christmas Fayre – a message from Ann Ramsdale (PTA Chairperson)
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Christmas Fayre last week. We're pleased to say that
together we raised £1,500 for school. Special thanks to Carly for doing such a great job organising
the event again - no mean feat at such a busy time of year. Also, thank you to her talented husband,
Simon for designing and building the grotto. Thank you too to Suzy and Tom for organising the
Round Table to collect Father Christmas on their sleigh and of course to FC himself for working so
hard throughout the event ably assisted by the wonderful Miss Flood and Mrs McArthur. It all made
for a magical experience for the little ones.
Finally, thank you to Mr Sanders and all the staff who yet again gave up their own time to volunteer
at the event. And, last but by no means least to all the parents/grandparents who helped to set up,
run a stall or clear up at the end. These events wouldn't happen without you. Wishing you all a
relaxing holiday and see you in 2017 when we'll be talking 80s Disco and Fizz & Quiz!!!!
Best wishes, Ann
