Summer School 2017
LINCOLN Preparatory Academy
Summer School runs during the month of June between June 5 and June 28.
Registration for classes begins April 11 and ends on May 26, after which a late
fee will be charged. A refundable textbook deposit fee of $35 will be required
for each class that uses a textbook. A $50 processing fee will be charged for
any class registration that is withdrawn. No refunds are available after June 6.
Students are required to conform to Lincoln Preparatory Academy standards
of behavior and dress code outlined in the Family Handbook. Students who attend from other Great Hearts schools may wear their uniforms. Please direct

Academic Courses
Most academic courses run for four weeks. Note that students will receive a grade and a weekly evaluation for academic
courses. See course descriptions on the reverse. All course offerings are dependent upon satisfactory student enrollment.

ACADEMIC COURSES
Math Fundamentals: June 5 –28 · 8:00-12:00 M-F


A skills-based course designed for incoming 6 Graders to strengthen their understanding of
mathematical concepts by using numerical analysis to master the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages,
and basic algebraic operations. This course is recommended to incoming 6th Grade students
and for our current 6th Grade students by referral letter.
Pre-Algebra: June 5 -28 · 8:00-12:00 M-F


A course designed to help current 7th Grade students work on operations with integers and rational numbers, and move toward symbolic language. Students will learn to solve algebraic
equations and will work with unknowns to solve various other problems. This course is recommended for incoming 8th Graders who need more help with basic algebra skills before entering our 8th Grade Algebra I class and for current 7th Grade students by referral letter.
Algebra I: June 5-28 · 8:00-12:00 M-F


This course covers Algebra I topics in anticipation of our 10 grade Algebra II class.
Introduction to Latin: June 5-16 · 8:00-12:00 M-F


This course is designed for incoming students who need basic first year Latin grammar skills.
It prepares students for 7th Grade Latin I and provides coverage of 6th Grade Latin material.
This class is also available to those interested in brushing up their Latin skills.
Latin I: June 5-28 · 8:00-12:00 M-F


This course is designed for students who need first year Latin grammar skills. It will prepare
students for Latin II. This class is available to those new students who would like to enter 8th
Grade Latin.
ELECTIVE COURSES
These classes do not offer credit and have no evaluations, but they provide an
enrichment opportunity for students and parents to explore areas of interest.
Student Workshop on Shakespeare: June 5-16 · 8:00-12:00 M-F

Classical Education for the Great Hearts’ Parent: June 2017

$200
This two-week course provides an introduction to William Shakespeare’s plays and sonnets.
Students focus on a comedy, a tragedy, and a variety of poetry.
$100
This evening class for parents provides an overview of classical, liberal education. Subjects
reviewed in seminar discussion will include epic and lyric poetry, history, drama, philosophy,
science, art, and rhetoric from ancient Greek and Roman authors. Two-hour seminar classes
will be offered in the evening for parents based upon schedule availability.
