Michael Sheen’s award-winning production of The Passion in
Easter 2011 thrust Port Talbot very firmly into the worldwide
arts spotlight. A cast of more than 1,000 local people joined
the actor in his home town for 72 hours of open air
performances, engaging communities in multiple locations.

Cefn Coed Colliery Museum tells the story of coal mining
at this Dulais Valley pit, once one of South Wales’ most
dangerous mines.

In the Afan Valley, meanwhile, the South Wales Miners
Museum gives an insight into the proud history of the local
people. The Margam Abbey and Stones Museum houses a
fascinating collection of ancient inscribed stones. The
abbey’s history stretches back to 1147.
