They have nomination forms available at the meeting tonight and are working to get students at Jackson involved in the nomination process as well. Principal’s Report: Dave Peters Dave reports that 667 checks were received for AP testing this spring for approx 800 seats. This number is up significantly from the ~400 checks received last spring. Administrators and teachers have been identifying students they feel are good candidates for the AP program and are personally encouraging those students to sign up for AP classes next year in order to encourage all students to work to their full potential. JLC has been working out a plan that would allow students who failed a year-long class the first semester to take tests for significant assessments they may have received a zero on during the actual class period in hopes that it would better reflect the students’ abilities and possible to allow them to pass the class. The relearning that would be necessary would be covered by funding available from the “On Time Graduation” funding. The school will be adding an Awards and Recognition link on the JHS website. This data will stay on the site and be archived so that people can reflect on Jackson’s achievements for years to come. The school will start with data from this school year, but will gradually add information from previous years as well. Anyone with photos and/or information related to awards/recognition from previous years can turn it in to Laurie Wirtz who will add it to the site. Kathryn Lee requested that Jackson archive old “Daily Announcements” for a couple of weeks so that parents and students can refer back to the information. Dave Peters said it would look into doing that. Staff Representative: Dave Peters Janet Hitt gave kudos to the students who performed at the Regional Solo and Ensemble Contest recently. 41 students performed in 47 different entries with 24 performances earning the Superior rating and 27 individuals qualified for state as winners (6) or alternates (21).
