Ashburton District’s most comprehensive conference venue specialises in corporate
meetings, exhibitions, product launches and seminars. As the largest conference and
function centre in the Ashburton District, we pride ourselves on our facilities, which
include options from 4 to 400+ guests.
Being the biggest doesn’t automatically make you the best; so we strive to offer bespoke solutions
to make you – the conference organiser – look good! Our team can assist in arranging everything
down to the last detail to ensure your event is a success and we have fantastic partners on board
to deliver support services, products and creative solutions.

Hotel Ashburton, set amongst manicured gardens and lawns provides a range of venues for
work away from the noise and distraction of the CBD.
Heron
large SPACE FOR MEDIUM SIZED EVENTS
This is a large room, with natural light
afforded by floor to ceiling windows on the
North West wall offering views into our
manicured gardens and comes complete with
full bar facilities. Suitable for medium sized
conferences, seminars & product launches.
The Heron has a built in PA system, recessed
dimmable lighting, black out drapes and
multiple power outlets.
Named after the beautiful Lake Heron, the
largest of the Ashburton lakes covering 6.3 sq
kms. The distance around the shoreline is 19
kms. The average depth of the Lake is 35m.
The Lake was named by early pioneer T.H.
Potts after the white herons that he found
on the lake. The Maori name for the Lake is
[Oturoto].
Arrowsmith
LARGE FLEXIBLE SPACE
The second of our large venues offering
recessed, dimmable lighting, natural
light, black out drapes and a built–in PA
system.
The Arrowsmith Lounge also
has floor to ceiling windows offering
garden views and combines with Heron
& Valetta Lounges to offer flexibility in
venue space.
Named after Mount Arrowsmith and the
Arrowsmith Ranges. The range runs from
southwest to northeast, parallel to the main
ranges of the Southern Alps. The highest

point on the range is Mount Arrowsmith
at a towering 2,781 metres (9,124 ft).
It is believed that the range was named in
honour of John Arrowsmith, the 19th Century
British cartographer.
Valetta
large SPACE WITH BAR FACILITIES
Another large space suitable for medium
sized events with full bar facilities, built–in
PA system and recessed dimmable lighting.
Valetta Lounge combines with Heron,
Arrowsmith & Clearwater Lounges to offer
the largest conference venue in Ashburton.
This is an excellent space for large events
requiring a pillarless foot print such
as banquet dinners, conferences and
trade exhibitions.
Named after a lightly populated locality on
the southern side of the Ashburton River. Its
name is actually a misspelling of Valletta,
the capital of Malta. Valetta was formerly
served by the Mount Somers Branch, a branch
line railway that diverged from the Main
South Line at Tinwald, just south of Ashburton.
Some remnants of the railway still exist in and
around Valetta including the station’s goods
shed, minor bridge abutments, and some of
the line’s formation.

Clearwater
Erewhon
PILLARLESS LARGE SPACE
SMALLER SPACE
The fourth of our main venues. Clearwater
offers another pillarless meeting space
ideal for training seminars, sales meetings
or a private dinner. Adjacent to Clearwater
Lounge and Restaurant this is the ideal venue
for dinner events or as a small exhibition
space in conjunction with your conference.
Named after Lake Clearwater which is
4km long and a kilometre wide, located
in the Hakatere Conservation Park and
one of the larger of the Ashburton Lakes
[Ō Tū Wharekai]. Lake Clearwater is one
of the largest of the Ashburton trout fishing
lakes and was discovered by TH Potts and
Henry Phillips in 1857.
This is a smaller space suitable for smaller
conferences, ideal for board meetings,
cocktail events and intimate dinners.
Named
after
the
Erewhon
Station which is situated at the
headwaters of the Rangitata River in
Mid–Canterbury, nestled amongst the
Southern Alps. This countryside provided
a magnificent backdrop in the Lord of
the Rings movie “The Two Towers” and
is the home of the Erewhon Clydesdale
Horse Stud.
Clearwater RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE
A mid-sized venue with natural light
afforded by sky light and picture
windows. This room is perfect for training
sessions or smaller conference groups of
up to 80.
Named after the extensive collection of art by
local Ashburton and Mid–Canterbury artists
showcased on its walls.
VERSATILE SPACES TO ADD TO YOUR EVENT
Clearwater Restaurant and Clearwater
Lounge are versatile spaces that can be
incorporated into your conference area for
larger gala dinners and weddings, or used
independently for pre dinner drinks, cocktail
parties, or trade and exhibition areas for
conference or event sponsors.

accommodation options. With a total of 54 rooms, all ground floor, the majority open
onto manicured gardens, providing an oasis of calm, perfect for rejuvenation between
conference and social commitments.
Our Standard Rooms (12) provide a comfortable lead in option while our Superior (23) and
Deluxe Rooms (18) offer those little extra touches of quality. All rooms are on the ground floor
