Key Responsibilities
The selection of the successful candidate will be based on how well that person is able to meet the key
responsibilities listed below, in terms of abilities, experience, qualifications, personal qualities and
educational philosophy.
Teaching Responsibilities
The successful applicant is required to:

teach French classes form Year 8 to Year 12 – one class at each level. (Excellent language skills
and a high level of competency in second language teaching are essential.);

prepare, document and deliver appropriate programs for each class;

assess and report on each student according to program, faculty and College requirements.
The Learning Environment
As a classroom practitioner, the successful applicant will:

provide a contemporary, relevant and student-centred education;

provide a caring classroom environment of support for all students;

foster independent, resilient young people with a positive sense of self;

inspire within students a love of learning;

ensure teaching methodologies support critical thinking and problem solving skills, and facilitate
independent learning;

identify and respond to the individual learning needs of all students to enable them to strive for
personal excellence;

monitor individual student progress and promptly communicate any concerns to relevant staff
and/ or parents;

report clearly and regularly to parents on their daughter's progress and learning outcomes;

actively incorporate ICTs in teaching and learning;

foster outward-looking young people who are empathetic and active global citizens.

Communication and Relationships
As a professional member of the College staff, the successful applicant will:

establish and maintain effective and ongoing communication with parents. This includes
individual contact, as necessary, formal and informal reporting, and attendance at parent
information and interview evenings;

communicate effectively with colleagues;

communicate effectively with all members of the pastoral care team and learning support staff
about students' needs;

establish effective relationships with students;

support the College's pastoral program.
Cocurricular Program
All teaching staff in the College are expected to contribute to the cocurricular program offered to
students.
Community
As a member of staff associated with Seymour College, the successful applicant will:

attend College community functions and events;

represent the College in a positive and professional manner.
Other Duties
As part of their professional duties, all teaching staff are expected to:

support the College's learning-beyond-the-classroom program (e.g. personal development
camps, outdoor education activities, study tours);

attend staff and other scheduled College meetings and information nights;

fulfil rostered duties as required (this may include after school hours and Saturday mornings);

undertake other duties as required.
Staff Appraisal

The Head of Faculty and the Deputy Principal will monitor and support the work of the
successful applicant during the course of the contract.
As the programs and activities of Seymour College are based upon strong Christian
principles and traditions, the successful applicant should be supportive of and
comfortable within such an educational environment.
