The re-imagined Art All Around took off in Westbrook in a months-long process that connected and empowered diverse members of the community, celebrated local identity, and helped spark economic activity, culminating in the transformation of a downtown park into a fantasy world comprised of thousands of locally conceived and hand-crafted art pieces. On January 6th, Maine Center for Creativity, in collaboration with Kingspoke and the Westbrook organizations and artmakers that made it possible, is bringing artifacts of the 2016 installation to Portland for one month, and will announce the 2017 Art All Around communities. Learn about the Art All Around initiative, how to get involved, and Maine Center for Creativity’s ongoing vision to engage and empower Maine’s whole communities in creating a culture of creativity and innovation, and work together for more vital, vibrant and visible cities and towns across the state. Maine Marimba is a unique percussion band based in Portland, Maine. They play marimbas, huge wooden xylophone-like instruments. These are hand-made by Jacob, and are created from a variety of woods. The music we play is based on traditional Zimbabwean music from the Shona culture. It incorporates great rhythms, and inspires foottapping, hip-swaying and dancing. Tickets just $10 at the door and the party kicks off at 7pm!
