The Big Question Day 2 Christianity around the World: “ Many people… one faith?” th Monday 14 March 2016 Children are naturally curious about life. Growing up raises lots of questions – many to do with faith, the world around them and what they believe in. Part of our role in school is to enable children to develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally – and our Big Question Days aim to support this. The second of these days focuses on Christianity Around the World. The Christian Church is much bigger than we think! Over the 2000 years since Jesus chose his small band of disciples in the Roman province of Judea, it has grown into a family of over two billion believers - who today can be found in every country of the world. But… do all Christians worship in the same way? Aims The Big Question Day aims to offer the children a variety of different ways to explore Christianity around the world, through drama, mime, art, music, prayer and reflection. As always, our day will incorporate our Christian ethos of: We learn together, play together and worship together. During The Big Question Day, the children will consider the following key questions: FS/KS1: AT1: What different forms does Christianity take in another country outside the United Kingdom? AT2: What can we learn from the way Christians in another country worship God and love their neighbours? KS2: AT1: What can we learn about what Christians believe – doctrine and practice – by exploring the worldwide Christian Church? AT2: What can we learn from the Christian faith as it is expressed in countries and cultures different from our own? Organisation The day will begin with a short act of worship in the hall (song and prayer) and a brief explanation of what the day will consist of and discussion around The Big Question. The second of these Big Question Days will be undertaken in class groups so that activities and learning can be differentiated and teachers are able to support learning and observe the responses of their own pupils. For today’s theme we are being supported by the Barnabas in Schools organisation, who will be leading workshops for each class in the hall. Their timetable is as follows: Time Group 09.00 Whole school Assembly 09.20 Owls FS Workshop School hall 09.55 Red Kites Workshop School hall 10.30 Break 10.45 Eagles 11.20-12.05 Kestrels Content - Location School hall - Workshop School hall Workshop School hall 12.15 Lunch - - 13.30 Ospreys Workshop School hall 14.15 Falcons Workshop School hall 15.00 All classes Feedback Classrooms Workshops will be 35 minutes for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1; and 45 minutes for Key Stage 2.
