Beyond the Battle is a 2 year project within Gannawarra
Shire sponsored by the Victorian Government through the
Victoria Remembers Grant Program.
It is about showing the faces and telling the stories of our
World War 1 service community and broadening the reach
to include those from other areas and nations who moved
to the Gannawarra Shire at any time after the war. This
project will sensitively explore all facets of Gannawarra’s
involvement in The Great War, acknowledging our
indigenous servicemen and women, the understanding of
how war affects everyone - from those who serve to those
who keep the home fires burning, as well as how our
community today is different from, and similar to, that of
1914-1918. In this way, we have stories from all over the
world that reflect what was happening at the time.
The project will include contributions in the form of digital
copies of images, documents and other materials provided
by members of the community, relating to family members
who served and will result in a documentary style film and
recorded in the permanent collection accessible through the
Gannawarra Library Service.
The documentary film, which will incorporate some of the
images and stories collected, will be screened at two
community cinema events on Remembrance Day 2017 and
2018.
If you would like your family’s history to be included in this
project, please contact:
