comprehend formal and informal spoken Spanish. Acquire vocabulary and grammatical
structures that will enable them to read, write and have a conversation in Spanish.
Students will develop the use of Spanish to express ideas orally with accuracy and
fluency through the ACTIVE participation of in class discussions. The main purpose of
this class is to prepare students to be able to handle taking the advanced courses
available the following year.
OUTLINE:
A. Vocabulary, Grammar and Reading ~

Students will keep a running list of new vocabulary words
they encounter as they read and discuss in class. There is also
a preset list of common vocabulary words that will be handed
out, in addition to the vocabulary lists in each chapter.
Vocabulary quizzes are given DAILY.
2.
There will be an extensive concentration on the basic points of
grammar and verb conjugations with emphasis on areas where
Spanish and English conflict, as well as on the finer
grammatical points that will contribute to an increased ability
to write and speak correctly, with minimal interference from
the English language.
3.
Students will be assigned homework every night on a range of
topics and vocabulary. We will cover short stories and
newspaper articles in addition to the readings in the textbook.

All students are REQUIRED to do their OWN homework on a daily
basis. Homework calendars are provided at the beginning of each
month/and on my website to ensure that absence is not an excuse for
homework. Each student MUST have his/her own homework folder at
all times. Homework will be spot checked at any point during the
lesson and throughout the semester. Everyone's folders will be
checked, if a student is not prepared he/she will not receive a passing
notebook or homework grade.
F. Internet activities~
Each student is REQUIRED to visit my page on the internet specifically
geared toward reinforcing the skills developing in class. One should
work on the page consistently during the semester. Maintain a folder of
