This summer we will be offering the following non-credit classes: Summer Art Program, Youth Exchange Summer Media, Beginning and Intermediate Band. Registration is open to current 6th and 7th graders, Beginning Band will be available for current 5th graders. There are two sessions daily. Complete the attached form and mail/return to the school office. Classes will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis according to postmark date. Students (current 6th and 7th) are required to enroll in two classes. Current 5th graders- Beginning Band is the only class available for Summer Session enrollment. 2. Make checks payable to DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ($25.00 charge for returned checks in addition to bank fees) ENRICHMENT COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Beginning Band (also open to current 5th Graders) Under the direction of King’s own Mr. Larry Trela, Beginning Band is a great place to start your music education. Students will learn basic fundamentals of musical techniques and musicianship. This includes care of instruments, correct posture and carriage, breath control, tone production, intonation, phrasing, articulation, musical terminology, dynamic nuances, and fingering. *NOTE: upon selection or assignment of instrument, additional band supplies, e.g. mouthpieces, reeds, etc., need to be purchased and is not included with tuition. Intermediate Band For the student who has successfully completed the Band I course and aspires to improve his/her reading and playing abilities. Intermediate level of performance techniques and musicianship are taught. Development of skills and musical understanding are maintained through the study of rhythmic exercises and literature. Summer Art Time to let the creative juices flow this summer! Students will become better and more confident artists after enrolling in this exciting class. New art techniques and materials will be introduced for drawing, painting and sculpture. Art history and art movements will also be discussed to help develop a well rounded artist. This class will take the student to whole new level while having fun, so don’t miss out! Instructor: Ms. Kristin Grumbling Summer Media Learn how to produce short videos this summer using digital cameras and the latest editing software. Students will also learn how to storyboard their ideas and create videos that relate to teenage topics. Finished programs will be entered into ‘Olelo’s annual Youth Exchange Contest and broadcast on ‘Olelo’s TV channels. Having the skill to create quality videos is more important than ever so don’t miss out on this class! Enrollment is limited. Instructor: Jennifer Nakamura Science Methods This class will help introduce you to the tools and methods that scientist do when conducting an investigation. Topics covered will be experimental design, and ecology of Kaneohe Bay. Students will explore various experiments as well as learn about the bay. Instructor: Tina Chan Tuition and Refund Policy Base tuition is $170.00 for all students(current 6th and 7th grade). Some classes require a lab fee. Please make sure and include full payment when registering. Base tuition for current 5th graders (only) for one class is $85.00. Full refund --- by 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016 50% refund --- by 5:00 p.m. Friday June 17, 2016 NO REFUND after 5:00 p.m. Friday June 17, 2016 Attendance Policy: 1. Absences: Please call the office at 233-5727 if your student will be absent or on vacation. NO refund will be given for dismissals due to nonattendance. 2. Tardies: Students arriving at school after 8:00 a.m. must report to the Office. Discipline Policy: Students are expected to maintain acceptable standards of conduct and discipline as in the regular school setting. The Chapter 19 rules and regulations pertaining to discipline of students set forth by the DOE will be followed. King Intermediate rules will be implemented in areas not specifically covered by DOE rules. Students are not required to wear King Intermediate Uniforms; however, they are to follow the dress code shown on the back of the registration form. The Summer Session Director reserves the right to dismiss any student for behavior that disrupts the educational process and progress of the students, teachers and staff members. NO refund will be given to students dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
