The Almost Home Times
“All the woofs and meows fit to print”
January/February 2015
"My New Years Resolution is to not pee
on the garbage cans outside. Just
because the garbage cans are stinky
doesn't mean I need to pee on them."
"My new years resolution is to get out and
socialize more. Possibly joining in the fun
at daily treat time and playing more with
other cats instead of by myself. Nobody
likes a wallflower after all"
"My new years resolution is to realize that
people do NOT like their faces licked off, one or
two licks is plenty."
"My new years resolution is stop climbing on top of the
cages and pushing all the pillows and blankets onto the
floor. Even though I think it is funny as I sit high up on my
perch to watch people picking them up all the time."
"My new years resolution is to CHEW my
treats and not swallow them whole like a
little piggy."

"My new years resolution is to
not be such a diva. When it's
raining outside, I will not wait for
someone to carry me outside to
do my business then carry me
back in.

My name is Cookie
and I am a sweet
staffy mix who is
just over a year old.
I once had a very
loving family who
took wonderful care
of me. But late one
night, some bad
people broke into
our house, dognapped my little
brother, stole some
things out of our
house and then
they did the
unthinkable. I try not to think about it, but there
were two very loud noises that scared me so bad
that I hid until the policemen came. In just those
few minutes my whole world came crashing
down on me. My family was gone forever and I
had no where to live. The people at Almost
Home took me in and tried to calm my fears. I
really am a good little girl who is potty trained
and up to date on all my shots. I wake up a lot
very scared and whimpering and someone
needs to pet me softly and promise me that I am
ok, but that horrible night keeps replaying in my
mind. There are so many loud noises here and
startling sounds that I find myself shaking in fear
a lot. I know I am safe here but I wish so badly to
have a home of my own again. I would need to
be the only dog in your home. Ever since my little brother was dog-napped I just don't get along
with dogs as much. I've never been around cats
but I don't know that I would like them. I heard
they like to pounce on dogs when they are
sleeping. I wouldn't like that. I do like to play and
would be fine if there were some kids who would
want to throw tennis balls for me to chase. I
would also like to curl up on the couch with my
new family so that I could get lots of belly rubs. I
have so much to offer and dream of starting a
new life. I am so afraid of going to sleep because of my nightmares, but without a family to
love me, I'm afraid to stay awake. Please, won't
you open your heart to me?
My name is Tova and not to brag but I am devastatingly handsome. I am about two years old
and was dropped off at Almost Home when my
owner moved and decided I couldn't go. I am
kind of shy at first but I do love to be pet and
have my chin scratched. I am learning that
when people pick me up, it is to cuddle, not to
hurt me. I have a very healthy appetite and can
usually be found hanging around the food
bowls. Not to worry ladies, I am a very svelte
cat who just has a big appetite. I would love a
home of my own as I am becoming somewhat
withdrawn here at the shelter. I would be fine
with just one person of my very own or a whole
family. As long as everyone understood that I
will need sometime to adjust. I would be fine
with another cat as long as they were nice. I
don't like being bullied, it makes me curl up into
a ball and hide. I've never met a dog so I'm not
sure what I think of them. Probably with a slow
introduction we could make it work. I just want a
lap to curl up on, a hand to pet me, and people
telling me that they will never leave me. Could
we be the perfect match?

Interesting Fact:
Dogs often hesitate before going out in the rain. It's not because they're afraid of
getting wet, but because the rain amplifies sound and hurts their sensitive ears.

Helpful Hint:
Do you have difficulty trying to get your pooch to take his pill? Does he spit the pill out even if it's hidden
inside a treat or soft food? Our friends at Premier Pet Supply gave us this wonderful hint. Wrap each pill
in a small spoonful cream cheese or peanut butter on a small piece of waxed paper.
Roll the waxed paper like a tootsie roll and place the treats in the freezer. Every day
take out one individually wrapped pill and give it to your dog. He will eat it right away
and your pill hassle will be gone!
What Every Cat Owner Knows:
Cuddling up with a purring cat is certainly a relaxing experience. Scientific studies
have shown that cat owners have lowered blood pressure and can live longer than
humans who don't own pets!

Are you really a No-Kill Shelter?
Some may think this is a silly question. However,
you would be surprised at how many shelters claim to
be “No-Kill” and in fact do euthanize animals due to
overcrowding, illness or bad temperaments.
At Almost Home Animal Rescue League we believe
every life is precious. Often, these animals need
training or just loving treatment in order to
rehabilitate them. We will make sure any sick or
injured animal receives the medical care needed no
matter what the cost. We never know what animal will
make a difference in someone’s life.
Almost Home Animal Rescue League was founded in
2001 and continues to proudly be a No-Kill shelter.
Almost Home depends upon your generosity and compassionate
support. There are many different ways that you can support
our mission. Including Almost Home in your will or trust is a
meaningful way to provide care, protection and maintenance
for abused and abandoned animals. Your legacy can make
all the difference to an animal in need!
