SYDNEY METRO NORTHWEST LAUNCHING GANTRY CROSSING

SVC-CN0125
22 March 2017
SYDNEY METRO NORTHWEST
LAUNCHING GANTRY CROSSING OVER WINDSOR ROAD –
KELLYVILLE
The $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest is the first stage of Sydney Metro - Australia’s
biggest public transport project currently under construction and a priority infrastructure
investment for the NSW Government. Salini Impregilo has been contracted to build the 4
kilometre elevated skytrain component of Sydney Metro Northwest, including a new cable
stayed bridge over Windsor Road at Rouse Hill.
As you may have noticed the launching gantry has now crossed Windsor Road at the
intersection of Old Windsor Road, lifting concrete segments to build the skytrain viaduct.
Please be advised that between 27 March 2017 and 9 April 2017, Windsor Road will be
temporarily closed at the intersection of Old Windsor Road between 10.00pm – 5.00am.
These dates are weather permitting and may need to be extended. We will provide
residents with an update if there are any further changes to this schedule.
Activities will include:

Operation of launching gantry (lifting concrete segments) over Windsor Road

Oversized trucks delivering concrete segments

Joining segments together with glue and steel cables

Use of light towers to support night time activities

Traffic controllers to support traffic diversion
Day works
During the hours 5.00am to 7.00pm, residents and motorists can expect to see workers
on the gantry overhead undertaking preparation activities. Normal traffic conditions will be
in place. Motorists are advised to drive with caution around work sites and maintain focus
on the road.
Night works
Segment lifts over Windsor Road will occur at night when traffic volumes are generally
lower. As a result of this activity, Windsor Road will be temporarily closed on the nights the
segment lifts take place. Traffic diversions will be in place. Please see detour map
attached. Night activities will be undertaken between 7.00pm and 5.00am.
Residents are encouraged to use Samantha Riley Drive wherever possible between
the hours of 7.00pm and 5.00am. Pedestrian detours may also be required around the
work area at various stages. Please follow all signage and traffic controller directions.
Out of hours segment deliveries
Oversized vehicles will be used to deliver concrete segments to Windsor Road. Due to
Roads and Maritime Service restrictions on the movement of oversized vehicles, segments
will be transported between 8.00pm and 5.00am, Monday to Sunday, to reduce impact on
the road network Segments will be unloaded from the delivery trucks at night using a large
crane.
Please follow all traffic control and direction at these times.
Residents will see increased lighting at night and may experience noise associated with
construction during these works. Every effort will be made to minimise the impacts of
construction on local residents.
We will manage construction impacts by undertaking the following activities:

‘Soft’ lighting towers will be used and directed away from residences to reduce light
spill impacts

Reduce noise impacts from general plant and equipment such as non-tonal reversing
alarms, turning off plant and equipment when not in use and minimising the
simultaneous operation of plant and equipment where possible.
