GOOD NEWS ABOUT DEMOCRATS MARCH 16, 2017 ANSON COUNTY CHAIR VANCINE STURDIVANT COMES HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL! Democrats across the state are celebrating the news that Anson County Democratic Chair Vancine Sturdivant has come home from the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill after a terrible car accident. Vancine was on the way to the beauty shop on March 9th when she was hit by a wrong way driver who died instantly. The wreck broke many bones in her chest and she had multiple injuries. She was transported to Chapel Hill by helicopter. So many people called her that her room had to be removed from the Hospital’s phone list! She needed to rest and recover. Mrs. Vancine is not only the Anson County Democratic Party Chair, she is also a popular County Commissioner. However, she spends the greatest amount of time helping needy families. She is the founder and CEO of the Faith-Based Center of Hope through which she provides school supplies, school uniforms, feeds the homeless, elderly, sick and shut ins. Even a Charlotte television station has reported on how she helps family after family. Since 2011 she has headed up the Anson County “Toys for Tots” drive which has provided toys for more than 3,000 children each Christmas. Last Christmas her drive provided toys for more than 3,700 children! Vancine and her Democratic team have carried Anson County for the entire Democratic ticket in every election for many years! On Tuesday night, Mrs. Vancine said: “To God be the glory. After being involved in a head on collision, I am home! Even with the broken ribs and the severe bruises, I am fine. To survive this experience is nothing but the hands of God. Everyone has been great. I thank God for everyone who called, texted, visited, sent flowers, and especially sent up prayers. Now it is an organized Democratic Precinct! 31 patriotic citizens gathered at the Mountains Branch Library on March 6th to enjoy getting their precinct organized to fight for Democratic victories. Zack Hawkins presented a dynamic speech teaching men how to effectively make their voices heard in the political atmosphere of 2017. His March 7th speech to the Men’s Think Tank of Durham was entitled “Political Awareness And Mobilization.” Zack is an expert on political strategies. OVERFLOW FORSYTH DEMOCRATIC CROWD NOMINATES NEW LEADERS! The Forsyth County Democratic Executive Committee met on March 14th to nominate a new County Commissioner and to make nominations for the Forsyth Board of Elections. As you can see, there were about as many people standing as could find seats. The five Democrats who are standing at the front of the room were candidates to replace County Commissioner Walter Marshall who died recently. The business at this packed Executive Committee meeting was conducted by Forsyth County Democratic Party Chair Eric Ellison. The Executive Committee selected Fleming El-Amin as their nominee for County Commissioner. Fleming served as Forsyth County Party Chair for four years and he resigned from his position on the Forsyth Board of Elections to run for Commissioner. He is a native of Winston-Salem and he is a retired school teacher. After his appointment is approved by the Board of County Commissioners he will serve the remainder of Walter Marshall’s term which will end in December, 2018. The Executive Committee then voted for two nominees to send to Governor Roy Cooper to fill Fleming El-Amin’s seat on the Forsyth Board of Elections. Governor Cooper will select between Susan Campbell and Robert Durrah who were named first and second choice by the Executive Committee.
