Judges will be given blind tastings of one rib prepared by each griller and will judge on Appearance, Taste, and Tenderness. People’s Choice will be a small taste and will be by Popular Vote. Water and hand-washing stations will be located on event grounds. No refund checks will be issued. Signature of Head Griller: ____________________________________________________ Date ____________________ BBQ on the Bay Information for Amateur Grilling Competition Petoskey’s Festival on the Bay presents their 1st Annual Amateur Grilling Competition on Saturday, August 15 from 3-5pm at the Petoskey Waterfront. This event is designed for 10 teams, with up to four participatns per team. These amateur backyard enthusiasts will be able to show off their skills and win prizes. During the event, the public is welcome to purchase “punch cards” to sample each team’s preparations. On this punch card, the public can check off which team has the best offering. A portion of the proceeds from punch cards purchased will go to support Manna Food Project. Teams must bring: • grill - electric, gas, or charcoal • meat thermometer • plastic cutting board(s) - (minimum of 2) • utensils - serving tongs, knives, grilling utensils, etc. • meat thermometer • large capacity cooler - (minimum of 48 quarts) • non-latex disposable gloves • spices, sauces and/or condiments (Note: all supplies must be sealed, store-purchased and inspected by event officials.) Competitors requiring fruits or vegetables need to provide a list of requirements on their entry form. Items will be provided by officials and be charged to the competitor at cost. This is an amateur competition. Restaurant owners, anyone with formal culinary training or current employement as a chef or cook is excluded from entering the competition. Entry fee is $25 and is non-refundable. They will be judging “blind” for taste, texture, and presentation. Judges will each received a 1/3 of a rib section from each team in a container marked by secret numbering system. In lieu of a tie in the People’s Choice category, judges will decide the final winner. Location of event will be at the heart of the Petoskey Festival on the Bay entertainment area, on the edge of Little Traverse Bay. The Festival attracts several thousand people from all walks of life. Also new this year is the addition of a parking shuttle, which will help festival goers enjoy what the Festival and Downtown Petoskey have to offer without the hassle of finding a parking spot.
