1. Wrap green poster board around J. Slice
volunteer’s head. Mark where you need to cut
poster board horizontally and vertically so it will
fit comfortably and not be too tall.
2. Remove poster board from volunteer and cut any
extra poster board off along the short side.
13. Using the knife, cut an oval-like slit for nose,
creating a flap, and eyeholes.
14. Using hot glue, glue sunglasses in place so
lenses fall over eyeholes.
15. Glue the half moon smile in place with hot glue.
3. Then, cut a jagged edge (resembling a cut water
melon) along the longest side of poster board.
When your volunteer is ready, wrap mask around
head and tape shut in back with transparent tape.
4. Place jagged side of poster board on top of 1 2 sheets of red art or construction paper. Trace
around the jagged edge of poster board onto
the red paper.

5. Cut jagged edge out of red paper.
6. Glue the red paper to the green poster board so
the jagged edges line up about 2” apart and
allow to dry.
7. Cut seed shapes out of black construction paper
and glue near the top of the red paper jagged
edge.
8. Flip the green poster board over. Cut uneven,
1.5 – 2” wide strips out of light green paper.
9. Glue strips of light green paper to the green
poster board, creating the stripes of a water
melon rind, and allow to dry.
10. Draw a 5” x 2” half moon on red construction
paper and cut out.
11. Cut more seeds out of black construction
paper and glue to the red half moon.
12. Wrap the poster board around volunteer again,
noting where his or her eyes and nose fall.
Mark with a pencil and remove poster board
from volunteer.

Follow transfer instructions for ironing onto
white T-shirt.
Pair white T-shirt with long swim trunks or board
shorts and rolled-up yellow latex gloves.Volunteer
can wear sneakers or water socks to complete the
look.
(For green arms and legs, volunteer can wear long
sleeve green shirt and leggings or tights under
costume.)
