Dura Composites Adds Value to Designers,
Engineers and Specifiers in the Rail Industry with
the launch of BIM objects on the NBS Library
9th May 2017 – Dura Composites is pleased to announce the availability of BIM
objects for its market-leading Dura Platform and Dura Grating product ranges.
Available free from the National Building
Specification (NBS) National BIM Library, the
new data-rich BIM Objects allow specifiers to
see up-to-date, accurate data about Dura
Composites products and to easily incorporate
them into their overall design. Authored to the
trusted NBS standard, each BIM Object details
the various surface finishes, profiles, sizes and
colour options for each product, and provides
specifiers and end clients with detailed
information on how the products will perform during their expected lifecycle.
With the UK Government stating that the use of BIM is mandatory on all public sector
projects, Dura Composites has once again strengthened its market-leading service
and support by investing in the development of BIM objects to help its customers to
streamline the construction process and predict and reduce errors throughout the
different stages of design.
Those downloading Dura Composites BIM objects in
Autodesk Revit format can be confident that each file has
been quality checked by the NBS team, catalogued in line
with the NBS and includes embedded product information
and associated data to support the specification.
Commenting on the launch, Stuart Burns, Managing
Director at Dura Composites said: “With the increasingly-important role that BIM is
playing in the rail and construction industries, it’s vital for manufacturers like us to
support specifiers by providing comprehensive real world information about the
products we supply in a consistent and highly useable format. Our BIM objects are the
perfect complement to our other extensive technical resources, which include in-house
CAD design and Structural Engineering support, Technical Manuals, Live Load Test
Data, 5000 hours UV testing and Anti-Slip Certification".
For those not familiar with the products, Dura Platform, Dura Slab and Dura Grating
are made from high strength and low weight Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), and offer
a durable and low maintenance alternative to wood, concrete and steel.
Dura Platform is a precision engineered product made from GRP
which complies with Network Rail specifications and offers
significant improvements over traditional alternatives such as
concrete. The product has been described as “game changing” by
industry insiders and won ‘Best new Track or Infrastructure
Product’ at the last Railtex exhibition. The past 12 months have
seen a phenomenal uptake in Dura Platform, with multiple
installations completed across the UK, and several more in
progress at key transport hub stations.
Another of Dura Composites’ market-leading products is Dura Slab, which weighs up
to 80% less than steel and concrete and is ideally suited for use as trench covers,
offering low installation and servicing removal costs thanks to its more economical
transportation, handling and on site positioning.
Dura Grating is a high strength flooring material designed
for use on raised or roof walkways, as service riser
flooring and for protective screening. It has a long and
virtually maintenance free life and benefits from a low
lifecycle cost. The gritted anti-slip texture has one of the
highest degrees of slip resistance ever measured for a
walking surface, making it well-suited to wet or oily
environments.
