FILLPROOFNESS POLYESTER FILL METHOD NUMBER: IDFL 20-1 International Rotating Box Downproof Tester Fillproof Test Pillow WHY TEST FOR THIS? Fabric makes up the bulk of a filled garment or bedding product. Ensuring that the fabric can effectively contain the polyester filling is essential to customer satisfaction. HOW IS THIS TEST PERFORMED? A small test pillow is made from the sample fabric, filled with polyester and sewn closed. It is then placed in the test apparatus which is intended to consistently simulate use of the finished product. At the conclusion of the test cycle the test pillow and apparatus are closely examined. All material that escaped is collected and a corresponding rating is assigned. WHAT DO THE RESULTS MEAN? Generally in a polyester fillproof test only a rating is reported since it is often impossible to quantify the extremely small filaments that penetrate the fabric. HOW CAN I IMPROVE THE RESULTS? A fabric can be made more fillproof by several means: Increase the thread count Avoid patterns woven into the fabric (jacquard, damask) Use treatments/finishes (ciré, DWR, calendaring, etc.) Use high quality materials and techniques Testing, Inspection and Research Excellence IDFL LABORATORY AND INSTITUTE Certified Laboratory: IDFB • EDFA Associations: AATCC • ADFC • ASTM • CFDIA • DAC • EDFA • IABFLO • TFEA IDFL IDFL EUROPE IDFL CHINA IDFL TAIWAN [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] +1 801 467 7611 +41 52 765 1575 +86 571 8273 6561 +886 2 2259 1178 www.idfl.com
