Airline personnel need to ensure that an appropriate license file is provided by Jeppesen. The license file enables Aviator to work with all Aviator-integrated EFB apps installed by the airline. Upgrade and Deployment Considerations Aviator is released through available Apple distribution models. Only one version of the app can be downloaded to the iPad at a time. Initial Download and Data Updates The Aviator app and data, including subsequent data updates, requires approximately 100-200 MB of available storage capacity on the iPad. The variability in the storage capacity requirement corresponds to the amount of downloaded content in Aviator. Connectivity Considerations On the Ground iPads have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technologies built in. WiFi requires an Internet connection. If a device is enabled for cellular service, it can connect anywhere that cellular service is available. Aviator requires a reliable Wi-Fi or cellular Internet connection to download content updates. To share flight information between two iPads running Aviator, the devices use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to exchange flight-plan data between devices. In the Air All models of iPads that are 3rd generation or newer have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. In the air, Aviator can function with no Internet connectivity and can take advantage of aircraft Internet connectivity options over Wi-Fi if available. Aviator can still exchange flight-plan data between devices when you are in the air. Jeppesen Aviator Release Notes 3 © 2017 Jeppesen, All Rights Reserved Jeppesen Aviator Release Notes What’s New What’s New Jeppesen Aviator 1.2.1 includes several of new features. These features are described in detail in the Aviator User Guide. The following topics summarize the new features. Trip Kit disambiguation The disambiguation feature converts IATA codes to ICAO codes for trip kit requests. When you use IATA codes in a trip kit request, Aviator automatically converts the IATA codes to ICAO codes before sending the request to Trip Kit on Demand. Settings Menu A new in-app Settings menu provides easy access to the Aviator application settings. Application modes You can now run Aviator in one of three modes: Standard Mode—The fully-operational version of Aviator, which requires a license. If no license file is available, you can run Aviator in only the Free or Demo modes. Free Mode—This mode of Aviator provides limited integration between the installed EFB applications. EFB applications can be integrated in Free mode. Demo Mode—This mode enables you to preview some of the key features of the Aviator application. Other EFB applications are not integrated in Demo mode. Download tray The download tray enables you to view the status of trip kits and documents as they are downloaded to your device. Successful downloads are cleared from the download tray, and failed downloads remain in the tray until you successfully download the item or manually clear the item from the list. Airport lookup When a flight plan is missing an ICAO code, an IATA code, or the full name for an airport, Aviator automatically downloads and completes the missing information. Aviator performs the airport lookup function for all incoming flight plans. No Flight Plan alert When you open Aviator and no flight plan is loaded, a dialog box appears and provides a shortcut to your flight folder. This feature simplifies the process of loading a flight plan when no flight plan is currently loaded. © 2017 Jeppesen, All Rights Reserved Jeppesen Aviator Release Notes 4 Jeppesen Aviator Release Notes What’s New View trip kits with third-party content viewer You can now use your preferred document viewing application (for example, Adobe Reader) to view trip kits instead of the supplied Aviator Content Viewer. Dashboard enhancements The dashboard includes several enhancements for greater usability. Jeppesen Aviator Release Notes 5 © 2017 Jeppesen, All Rights Reserved Jeppesen Aviator Release Notes Issues Resolved Issues Resolved Aviator cannot receive trip kits for certain flights Issue: You might not have been able to download trip kits for certain flight plans, due to invalid waypoints inserted at the beginning and end of the route string. Mitigation: Remove the invalid identifiers from the route and resend the request to Trip Kit On Demand. Initialization error Issue: An initialization error might occur when you return to Aviator after the application has been running in the background for 30–60 minutes. Mitigation: Exit and restart the Aviator app: Access the iOS multitasking view (double-click the Home button) and swipe the Aviator app up and off of the Springboard; then restart the Aviator app. Alternate airports are not shared from FliteDeck Pro to Aviator Issue: Alternate airports occasionally do not appear on flight plans that you import from FliteDeck Pro. Mitigation: FliteDeck Pro 2.9.x is unable to provide alternates. Select a different flight plan provider from Settings > Aviator > Services > Flight Plan Provider. Terminal charts do not appear on first attempt Issue: On occasion, FliteDeck Pro does not display terminal charts for the origin or destination airports on the first attempt from Aviator. Mitigation: Tap the link for the chart a second time. © 2017 Jeppesen, All Rights Reserved Jeppesen Aviator Release Notes 6 Jeppesen Aviator Release Notes Known Limitations Known Limitations This section describes the known limitations to Jeppesen Aviator 1.2.1. Global Navigation menu in OPT and EFF do not display the selected flight plan Issue: When you access the global navigation function in either OPT or EFF, the selected flight plan from the Aviator dashboard does not appear. Mitigation: Navigate to Aviator using the global navigation function and then back to OPT or EFF to get the flight plan to show up in the global navigation for EFF or OPT. Initialized EFF flight plan reverts to Active status Issue: A flight plan that was initialized in Aviator reverts to Active status. Mitigation: Tap the Initialize button a second time to change the flight status to Initialized. The Demo mode of FliteDeck Pro stops responding when Aviator is in Free Mode or Standard Mode Issue: If you have FliteDeck Pro installed and you are running in Demo mode, FliteDeck Pro stops responding when you are also running Aviator in Free Mode or Standard Mode and you switch from Aviator to FliteDeck Pro. Mitigation: Run FliteDeck Pro only in Standard Mode when you are also running Aviator. FliteDeck Pro Error 112 occurs when you activate JDM Pro Issue: FliteDeck Pro might produce an Error 112 message when you activate JDM Pro with the SDR setting turned on. Mitigation: Deactivate both Aviator and FliteDeck Pro; then uninstall and reinstall Aviator. NOTE: This is applicable only if you have previously received an Error 112 message.
