Richard Benefield
Rev. Dr. Richard Glen Benefield, 75, of Anadarko died March 3, 2010. He was a Local
Pastor.
Richard was born July 29, 1934. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War
and in the National Guard.
In the 1960s and ’70s, he served at Mannford, Carter, Port, Noble, Wayne, Criner,
Weleetka, Dustin, Kenton, Felt, Cheyenne, Reydon, Cookson, Bunch, Erick, Liberty,
Duncan-Stephens, Bethel, and Bridgeport. He also served in north Arkansas.
He also was an educator and held multiple degrees.
Survivors include his wife, Alma June Benefield; children Debbie Pittman, Richard
Benefield Jr., and Ginger Gonzalez; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside service was March 8 at the cemetery in Martha.
Cecil Bolding
Rev. Dr. Cecil L. Bolding, 88, of Duncan died Nov. 9, 2009. His ministry career began
in 1946.
Cecil was born March 2, 1921, at Floydada, Texas, to Charles L. and Veda LeMay
Bolding. He was a World War II Army veteran. He held a B.A. degree from East Central
University, two master’s degrees from Central State University, and a doctorate from
Oklahoma State University.
He was ordained as an elder in 1954. He retired in 1985.
He was pastor for the Pickett Circuit, Sasakwa, Wapanucka, Muldrow, Jenks,
Collinsville, Temple, Hastings, Sulphur-First, Eufaula, Duncan-Wesley, OKC-Selecman,
Guthrie-West, OKC-Second Street, and Duncan-Stephens. In retirement, he was active at
Duncan-First.
He also was a Licensed Professional Counselor, and he taught English and speech in
Muldrow. He was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and the American Legion,
and he was a 32nd-degree Mason.
On Sept. 16, 2000, he married Barbara Ann Allred.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren;
stepdaughter Susan Morrow of Longtown; stepson Jack Trammell of Mustang; four
stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Two sons and two daughters
predeceased him.
Memorial service was Nov. 12 at Duncan-First UMC, with Rev. Phil Ware officiating.

Vic Cohlmia
Rev. Victor Fouad “Vic” Cohlmia, 90, of Tulsa died Dec. 2, 2009. He served churches
for 28 years, retiring in 1983.
Vic was born May 29, 1919, in Keifer. Before answering the call to ministry, he worked
in the grocery business and managed a shoe store. He attended seminary at Southern
Methodist University and was ordained in 1960.
He married Edith Tanner on Feb. 16, 1944. She preceded him in death.
Beginning in 1955, he served churches at Big Cabin, Pensacola, Oologah, Wyandotte,
Lenapah, South Coffeyville, Braman, Afton, Blue Jacket, Skiatook, Stigler, MuskogeeTrinity, OKC-Douglas Boulevard, OKC-Penn Avenue, and Mustang.

Survivors include three sons, Charlie, Ed, and Mark, all of Tulsa, and five
grandchildren.
Service was Dec. 5 at Stanleys Memorial Chapel, Tulsa.
Billy Cooke
Rev. Dr. Bill Howard “Dusty” Cooke, 88, of Cramerton, N.C., died Feb. 6, 2010. He
was ordained as an elder in 1986.
Billy was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Kannapolis, N.C. He was a World War II veteran,
serving in the First Marine Division at Guadalcanal in 1942. He married Thelma
Blackwelder on July 24, 1944. He held two master’s degrees and two doctorates.
He served Oklahoma churches at Morning Star, Oologah, and Davis, between 1982
and 1993. He also was a college professor and safety educator, and was honored as a pastor
in the Charlotte, N.C., area.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma; son Phil Cooke of Burbank, Calif.; daughter Beth
Carpenter of Cramerton; and four grandchildren.
Funeral was Feb. 9 at McEwen Pineville Chapel in Charlotte.
Dean Cullop Sr.
Rev. Leonard Dean Cullop Sr., 79, of Woodward died Aug. 30, 2009.
Dean was born on Nov. 6, 1929, at Manchester to Leonard K. and Bessie Butz Cullop.
He served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s. Before entering formal ministry, he was a
carpenter and mason and worked as a custom harvester. He graduated from Northeastern
Oklahoma State University in 1976.
He married Selma Lee Robinson on June 28, 1957, in Edmond. She predeceased
him. He married Mary Louise McCoy on Dec. 21, 2001, in Clayton, N.M., and the couple
moved to the Woodward area.
Rev. Cullop began his ministry in Oklahoma in 1974 and retired in 1995. He served
at Adair, Olustee, Elmer, Shidler, Grainola, Foraker, Coalgate, Wetumka, Beggs, Braman,
Wister, Catesby, and Bridgeport. He pastored the Wetumka Circuit in the Oklahoma
Indian Missionary Conference in 1983 and was ordained as an elder that year.
He was actively involved in the Walk to Emmaus and a Lions Club member. Other
interests included beekeeping.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise; son Leonard Dean Cullop Jr. of Fort Worth,
Texas; daughter Tressie Harzman of Woodward; stepdaughters Betty Warren and Sue Dellis
of Amarillo, Texas, and Loretta Gosselin of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Sept. 3 at Living Word Fellowship, officiated by Rev. Eric Cox, with

Leo Culver
Rev. Leo Virgil Culver, 88, of Miami, Okla., died March 4, 2010. An associate
member of the Oklahoma Conference, he received his license to preach in 1955 and retired
in 1987.
He was born on a farm at Edinboro, Pa., on Dec. 13, 1921, to Carl Culver and Olive
DeRemer. He attended Southern Methodist University.
Leo and Iona Jo Culver were married 67 years.
He served at Foyil, Commerce, Jay, Chelsea-Memorial, Harvard Avenue and Haglar
Memorial in Tulsa, Comanche, Addington, Bartlesville-Oak Park, Westville, and Zion.

After he retired, he was a chaplain at Grove Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Iona Jo; four children, Shelby Coltharp of Miami, Keith
Culver of Jay, Darlene Taylor of Grove, and Tad Culver of northeast Pennsylvania; 11
grandchildren, a great-grandchild and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral, officiated by Rev. Bill Richie, was March 9 at Grove-First UMC, with burial

J.C. Curry Jr.
Rev. Dr. James Calvin Curry Jr., 83, of Oklahoma City died June 16, 2009.
“J.C.” was born June 9, 1926, in Holdenville to Mabel Grace Curry and Rev. James C.
Curry, also a Methodist pastor.
He held a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern College and a master’s of divinity
from Southern Methodist University. He was ordained as an elder in 1951.
He and Janet Vaught of Spiro met in Sulphur and married on Sept. 5, 1956.
In 1974, Oklahoma City University presented him with an honorary doctorate for his
evangelistic efforts. He was Muskogee District superintendent, 1972-1977.
He served churches during 1948-1991. He was pastor at Bokchito, Hominy, Tecumseh,
Sulphur-First, Fairview, Poteau, Cushing, Chickasha-Epworth, Clinton, OKC-Wesley, Ponca
City-First, Elk City, and Durant-First. He also served on several Oklahoma Conference
boards and agencies.
Survivors include his wife, Janet; his children, Cindy Feegle of North Woodlands,
Texas, Cathy Robins of Pflugerville, Texas, and James Curry III of Houston; seven
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was June 19 at OKC-Putnam City United Methodist Church, officiated
by Revs. Norma Gravley-Quinn, Robert Gorrell, and Argus Hamilton, with burial at

D.O. Deaver
Rev. Durward Ocie Deaver, 100, of Talihina died May 30, 2009.
He was born Nov. 26, 1908, in Kopperl, Texas, to Jacob J. and Anncie Shoemake
Deaver.
Beginning in 1938, he served as a pastor and chaplain for the Central Texas and
Oklahoma Conferences. He was ordained as an elder in 1945. He served 17 years with
the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps. In Oklahoma, he was a pastor at Lone Wolf, Blair, Vian,
Medford, Chandler, Newkirk, Stilwell, Spiro, and Panama. He retired in 1974.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Wilburton, a 32nd-degree Mason and Life
Member of the McAlester Scottish Rite, and a 50-year member of Blue Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Kristi Lashlee of Beebe, Ark.; two grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was June 2 at Veterans Colony Cemetery, Wilburton, with Rev.

John Ferguson
Rev. John Robert Ferguson, 67, of Midwest City, died Jan. 5, 2010.
He was born April 6, 1942, in Lawton to John F. and Mamie Cole Ferguson. He held
a master’s degree in business from the University of Central Oklahoma.
He was a full-time Local Pastor, serving Covington UMC and studying at Saint Paul

School of Theology, Kansas City, Mo.
He retired from Tinker Air Force Base, where he was a production manager. He also
owned an archery shop. He was a leader of Boy Scouts for 25 years, as a troop Scoutmaster
and Big TeePee District commissioner.
Survivors include his wife, Deanna K. Ferguson; two sons, John Ferguson II of
McLoud and Thomas Ferguson of Oklahoma City; stepsons Donald Kennedy of Edmond
and Dale Kennedy of Durant; stepdaughter Dianna Leppke of Wellston; 12 grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Peggy, and a son,
Patrick.
Service was Jan. 9 at St. Matthew UMC, in Midwest City, with Rev. Ron Perceful
officiating, and burial at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah. (Smith-Parks, Harrah)
Mary Lou Hartung
Rev. Mary Lou Martin Hartung, a retired deacon, 74, of Tulsa, died Nov. 16, 2009.
Mary Lou was born March 21, 1935, at Menlo, Iowa, to Edwin and Zola McDonald.
She held a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a master’s degree from
Phillips Theological Seminary.
Her ministry service began in 1994. She was ordained as a deacon in 1997. She was a
chaplain at Restore Hope Ministries in Tulsa; executive director of Operation Hope Prison
Ministry; and chaplain at Inverness Village, a Tulsa retirement care facility.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Hartung; three children, Steven Martin, David
Martin, and Kathryn West; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were Dec. 2, at Tulsa-Asbury UMC and Inverness Village
Founders Hall.
Robert Healey
Rev. Robert Edwin Healey, 85, of Enid died Oct. 5, 2009.
Robert was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Springfield, Mass., to Roger W. and Ora Dupuis
Healey. He graduated from Stockbridge School of Agriculture and the University of
Massachusetts, majoring in floriculture, and was an accomplished floral artist. He was a
World War II veteran.
He also was a certified director of Christian Education. He also earned degrees at
the University of Tulsa and a teaching certificate at Oklahoma State University. He both
studied and taught at Oral Roberts Graduate Seminary.
He married Bobbye-Nell Cass in 1944. She preceded him in death in 2004.
Rev. Healey was baptized in the Jordan River. He began his ministry career in 1960.
He was ordained as an elder in 1968.
He served Tulsa-St. Paul’s, Sapulpa-Wesley, Coweta, Porter, Noble, OKC-Eighth
Street, Konawa, Sasakwa, Stillwater-Southern Heights, Healdton, Broken Bow, Eagletown,
Hobart, and Bethany.
After retiring in 1989, he was chaplain at The Methodist Home in Enid (1991-2003).
He also was an interim pastor at Elm Flat Christian Church, in Cleo Springs, and at Enid
Church of the Brethren.
He was director of the Tulsa Easter Pageant, Tulsa State Fair Parade, and Tulsa Junior
Chamber of Commerce. At Enid, he was AARP president and chaired the Public Library
of Enid and Garfield Counties as well as Enid Friends of the Library. He was a Rotary and
Lions Club member. He was a member of Enid Masonic Lodge and a 32nd-degree Mason,
Scottish Rite.

Survivors include son Edwin Healey of Aurora, Colo.; daughter Maureen Nichols of
Denton, Texas; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was Oct. 17 at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, Enid, with

Bill Long
Rev. William Robert “Bill” Long, 46, of Laverne died July 30, 2009. At the time of his
death, he was the pastor at Catesby and Fairview (Slapout) United Methodist Churches.
Bill was born on Sept. 11, 1962, in Chickasha to Robert Lee Long and Billie June
Hardesty Long. He grew up in Tuttle, where he was a member of Tuttle UMC. He married
Laurie R. Myers on May 31, 2002, in Cyril. He earned degrees from Oklahoma State
University and Phillips Theological Seminary.
From 1999 to 2006, Rev. Long served the churches at Cement and Cyril. He was
ordained as an elder in 2009.
He was active with Volunteers In Mission, both as a team leader and by encouraging
volunteers in Woodward District; prison ministry; and Walk to Emmaus. He was a
volunteer chaplain at Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck.
Prior to his ministry career, he worked 18 years for the Internal Revenue Service. He
also worked as a chaplain for Heartland Hospice.
Among other interests were raising poultry and auctions.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie, and stepson Shane, of the home; sons Chris
and Cory Long, both of Tuttle; daughter Amy Thomas of Oklahoma City; and three
grandchildren.
Memorial service was Aug. 3 at Tuttle UMC, officiated by Bishop Robert Hayes Jr.
and Revs. Randy Scraper and Steve Harshaw. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery.
Homer Martin Jr.
Rev. Homer M. Martin Jr., 89, of Bowie, Texas, died Sept. 19, 2009.
Homer was born June 29, 1920, in Rotan, Texas, to Homer M. and Naomi Carr Martin.
He earned a bachelor’s degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and studied at
Perkins School of Theology and Phillips Seminary-Enid. He was a veteran of both World
War II and the Korean War.
He married Evelyn L. McCown on Nov. 30, 1946.
Prior to his ministry career, he was a professional photographer and vice president of
a life insurance company.
Rev. Martin’s ministry began in 1960, he was ordained as an elder in 1965, and he
officially retired in 1988. He was pastor at Hydro, Shawnee, Tulsa-First, Muskogee-Trinity,
Sand Springs, Maysville, and Whitebead.
In Bowie, he served as pastor at First Presbyterian Church for six years. He founded
the Christ Is Life Evangelistic Association, taught in the Camp Farthest Out prayer
movement, wrote two books, and composed religious music.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; daughters Janice Snow of Mesardis, Maine, and
Sue Martin of Bowie; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased
by a son.
Funeral was Sept. 23 at Bowie-First UMC, with Lewis Sleeth and Keith Barr

George Palmer
Rev. George Samuel Palmer, 82, of Guthrie, died Jan. 23, 2010.
George was born June 11, 1927, in Henryetta to Andrew and Irma Griswald Palmer.
George and Patricia S. Palmer were married for 56 years; she predeceased him.
He began his ministry career in 1961, as a student pastor. He was ordained as an elder
in 1967 and retired in 1993.
He served at Dustin, Porum, Fort Gibson, Lakeland Heights, Woodall, Coweta,
Porter, Pond Creek, Ada-Asbury, Jay, Sand Springs, Prattville, Heavener, Elgin, Thomas,
Keyes, and Alex.
He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include son George Timothy Palmer; daughter Pam Crown of Guthrie;
seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Service was Jan. 27 at Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel, Edmond.
Charles Sapp
Rev. Dr. Charles Leon Sapp, 81, of Enid died March 31, 2010.
He was born March 23, 1929, in Oklahoma City to James Leon Sapp and Ida Miller
Sapp. He married Ynette Culley on June 6, 1948, in Oklahoma City.
He attended Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma Baptist University before
the couple moved to Nashville. He continued his formal education there and in Texas,
Virginia, and North Carolina. He also pastored Free Will Baptist churches in Texas and
North Carolina.
Back in Oklahoma, he taught at South Oklahoma City Community College and was
an adjunct professor at OCU.
He was ordained as an elder in 1975 and began full-time United Methodist ministry in
1976, as an associate pastor at McFarlin UMC in Norman. He also served at Enid-Bethany,
Stillwater-Highland Park, Perry, OKC-Village, and Texhoma. He retired in 1994, and the
couple lived in Enid.
He continued to minister by taking active part at Enid-First UMC, teaching Sunday
school, and filling pulpits at various churches in the Enid area. He also was a member of
Enid Men’s Garden Club, and he played the piano.
Survivors include his wife, Ynette; son Charles Michael Sapp of Muse; daughter
Lynette McKinney of Parker, Colo.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was April 3 at Enid-First UMC, officiated by Revs. Susan Southall, Doug
McKinney, and Shane Sapp, and also Charles Michael Sapp. (Anderson-Burris Funeral

Clif Sprouls
Rev. Dr. James Clifton “Clif” Sprouls, 91, of Oklahoma City died Jan. 10, 2010.
Clif was born April 19, 1918, in Girard, Texas, to James C. and Mary Mayfield Sprouls.
During World War II, he served as executive adjutant on a hospital ship. He married Helen
Patricia “Pat” Ash while stationed in Charleston, S.C.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and master’s from Southern
Methodist University. Oklahoma City University awarded him an honorary doctorate.
He was ordained as an elder in 1949 and began his career serving the Decatur, Texas,
Circuit. Also before moving to Oklahoma, he was the founding pastor of two Methodist
churches in New Mexico.
In Oklahoma, he was Conference treasurer, 1978-’79; director of the Council on

Administration, 1976-‘78; and superintendent of the OKC-North District, 1979-’85, OKCSouth District, 1972-’76, and Muskogee District, 1971-’72. He pastored at Memorial Drive
UMC, Tulsa; OKC-Linwood; and Miami-First.
He retired in 1985, living at Yukon before moving to Epworth Villa in recent years.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Worden of Oklahoma City and Jamie Crooch
of Edmond, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and
five stepgreat-grandchildren. His wife predeceased him.
Memorial service was Jan. 13 at OKC-Church of the Servant. (Smith & Kernke,

Garland Spurgin
Rev. Garland Boyd Spurgin, 89, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Dec. 11, 2009.
Garland was born May 21, 1920, in Bixby to Jesse G. and Lilly Street Spurgin. He
served in the Marine Corps. He was a graduate of Southern Methodist University and was
ordained in 1964.
He began his ministry career in 1957 and retired in 1985. He served at Tulsa-Bethel,
Ardmore-Carter Avenue, Stratford, Miami, Bartlesville-Epworth, Canton, Oakwood,
Hollis, Waynoka, Cheyenne Valley, Keyes, Marella, Sallisaw, Geary, Morris, Westville,
Zion, Granite, Carter, Willow, and Cheyenne.
Survivors include a sister, Thelma Showman of Broken Arrow. He was predeceased
by his wife, Helen.
Memorial service, officiated by Rev. Sara Bainbridge, was Dec. 15 at Bella VisaFirst UMC, with burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Hiwasse, Ark. (Benton County

Phil Wahl
Rev. Dr. Philip Baier Wahl, 103, of Duncan died Sept. 20, 2009.
Phil was born Aug. 17, 1906, in Oklahoma City, Indian Territory, to Philip B. and
Maud Wood Wahl. He married Thelma Lucille Elliott on Feb. 28, 1944, at Lee’s Summit,
Mo.
His career began in 1924 in Kansas, and his service in Oklahoma began in 1930, the
year he was ordained as an elder. He also pastored in Missouri. He officially retired in
1973.
Beginning in 1968, he held pastoral roles at Duncan-First UMC for 40 years. In 1989
the church honored him as minister of visitation emeritus. In Oklahoma, he also served
at Bennington, Dustin, Hastings, Carter, Berlin, Grove, Warner, Webber Falls, TulsaGlenwood, Tulsa-Rose Hill, Blackwell, Fairview, and Walters.
Phil Wahl received numerous honors from groups in the Duncan community and
beyond, especially for his advocacy work on issues of social justice. He was an avid reader
and book collector.
Oklahoma City University awarded him an honorary doctorate. He received the
United Methodist Denman Award, for evangelism; and the Human Relations Award, from
the Commission on Religion and Race of the Oklahoma Conference. He served on the
board of the Oklahoma Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
In Duncan, he received the Man of the Century Award from the Chamber of Commerce,
was grand master of the Black History Month Parade, and was presented the Liberty Bell
Award by the Stephens County Bar Association. He was president of Stephens County
Mental Health Association and a founding member of Christians Concerned.

Survivors include daughter Geraldine Marie Davis of Duncan, four grandsons, two
great-granddaughters, and a great-great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his wife
and a son, John.

Norton Wey
Rev. Norton Eugene Wey, 88, of Oklahoma City died Jan. 1, 2010. For 40 years, he
was an active clergyman in the Oklahoma and New Mexico Conferences.
Norton was born on June 1, 1921, in Eldorado to Cecil C. and Evelyn Norton Wey. He
held degrees from William Jewell College, Perkins School of Theology, and Oklahoma
City University. He was ordained as an elder in 1949.
For 16 years, he was director of Religious Life and Associate Professor of Bible at
OCU. He ministered at Wesley, Putnam City, and St. Mark’s churches, in Oklahoma City;
Wilburton; Hartshorne; and Tulsa-Boston Avenue. And in the mid-1950s, he directed the
Methodist Student Movement. He retired in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Kamp Wey; three daughters, Karen Wey Smola,
Annamarie Wey Cooper, and Alyson Wey Bailey; and nine grandchildren. His first wife,
Jane Lohman Wey, predeceased him.
Service was Jan. 5 at OKC-Wesley, officiated by Rev. Theo “Doc” Benson, with

Donald Williams
Rev. Dr. Donald Paul Williams, 80, of Tulsa died July 3, 2009. He was a pastor for
40 years.
Donald was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Shawnee to Robert R. and Florence Pierce Williams.
As a boy, he earned the Eagle Award in Scouting. In early adulthood, he pursued interest
in small airplanes. He married Reon Thomason on April 20, 1946.
He earned degrees at the University of Tulsa and Perkins School of Theology, and
received his doctorate from International Bible Institution. He was ordained as an elder
in 1961.
Beginning in 1953, he was a pastor at Beggs, Owasso, Tulsa-Hagler Memorial, TulsaSt. Luke’s, Enid-Trinity, Sallisaw, Tulsa-Trinity, OKC-St. Mark’s, Tulsa-Aldersgate, and
Locust Grove. He retired in 1993. He also served on Oklahoma Conference committees.
His service on the Grand River Dam Authority is credited with helping secure the
water supply for residents of eastern Oklahoma. He also built a lake home near Mannford
before moving to Tulsa.
Survivors include his wife, Reon; four children, Ronald Williams of Wichita, Kan.,
Dwight Williams of Tulsa, Evelyn Williams Roney of Lubbock, Texas, and Mark Williams
of Oklahoma City; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was July 7 at Tulsa-Trinity UMC, officiated by Revs. Tom Harrison
and Carl Sonny Plischke.
Kent Wood
Rev. Kent William Wood, 65, of Hinton died June 28, 2009. At the time of his death,
he was the pastor at Arapaho United Methodist Church, where he had been serving since
2003.
Kent was born June 7, 1944, in Okemah to Lt. Col. Billy and Joyce Sales Wood.

During college, he served in ROTC. He held a bachelor’s degree from Cameron University
and the Master of Divinity from Phillips University. Kent and Patricia Ann Wood married
May 3, 1969.
He began his ministry as a pastor in 1976. He was ordained as an elder in 1988. He
officially retired in 2002.
In addition to Arapaho UMC, he also served at Fargo, May, Hunter, Lawton-Aldersgate
Redemption, Snyder, Mountain Park, Waukomis, Arnett, Atoka, Gracemont, Cogar, and
Union City. He also was a chaplain at Cornell Correctional Facility.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; four children, Tony Wood of Fort Worth, Texas, Linda
Peck of Hunter, Brad Wood of Baytown, Texas, and Tricia Magavern of McKinney, Texas;
and several grandchildren. Rev. Roger Wood of Ardmore is his twin.
Service was July 2 at Lawton Heights UMC, with Rev. Montie Jones officiating, and

Peggy Fox
Peggy Ann Covey Patrick Fox, 81, of Edmond died May 31, 2009, in Edmond. She
was a retired diaconal minister and the widow of Rev. Richard Fox, who died in 2007.
Peggy was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Shamrock, Texas, to Audrey Sheets and Homer
Covey. She attended Hill’s Business University, Oklahoma City, and then earned an
associate degree in Christian Education at Perkins School of Theology.
She became a diaconal minister in The United Methodist Church and served churches
in Texas, Michigan, Kentucky, and Oklahoma, retiring in 1989.
Survivors include sons Rich Patrick of Katy, Texas, and Robert Patrick of Denton,
Texas; daughter Susan Ogilvy of Denton; stepdaughters Eileen Fox-Biswell of Norman,
Emily Fox and Elise Kaub, both of Tulsa, and Edith Sample of Joplin, Mo.; six grandchildren,
five step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She also was predeceased by a
son, Ralph Patrick.

Bruce Stevens and Linda Stevens
Retired diaconal minister Bruce Urban Stevens, 72, and his wife, Linda Louise
Rasmussen Stevens, age 61, died March 17, 2010, in Texas.
They were active members at Mustang United Methodist Church. As a diaconal, Bruce
also served at OKC-St. John’s UMC. He was a Boy Scout troop leader; Linda had been
active in the choir.
Bruce was born Aug. 27, 1937, in Yankton, S.D., to Howard and Lillian Stevens.
He served in the U.S. Air Force. His first wife, Darlene Hamberger, and a son, James,
predeceased him.
Bruce worked 24 years as an electrical engineer for Southwestern Bell. He held
bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and in divinity; he had studied at
four universities, including Oklahoma City University.
Linda was born Aug. 25, 1948, in Wichita, Kan., to Ross and Eleanor Moran. Her first
husband was Daniel Rasmussen.
She worked 23 years for the Internal Revenue Service, then completed study for a

bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1997 and earned a law
degree at OCU in 2000. She was an attorney in Mustang.
Bruce and Linda married in 1992. They jointly operated a financial planning and tax
preparation business.
Survivors include daughter Lori Rasmussen-Miller, sons William Stevens and Eric
Rasmussen, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two foster children.
Memorial service was March 26 at the Mustang church.

Mary Bush
Mary Ethlyn Ball Bush, 86, of Denton, Texas, died July 8, 2009. She was the widow of
Rev. Dr. Richard C. Bush Jr., who died in 2008.
She was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Huntsville, Texas. While a post-graduate student
at Perkins School of Theology, she married Dr. Bush. In the 1950s and ’60s, they were
Methodist missionaries in the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Then they lived and
served the Church in Oklahoma for 29 years, relocating to Denton in 2000.
She earned a degree in home economics from Sam Houston State Teacher’s College
in 1944 and a master’s in housing and interior design from Oklahoma State University in
1975.
Mary was a specialist in textile conservation, advising museums and collectors about
preservation, and a home economics teacher at several universities. She worked with
aboriginal weavers in Taiwan, and she wrote her thesis on Kickapoo Indian mats and woven
houses
Survivors include four children, Richard C. Bush III, Nancy Ellen Frenkel, Susan Marie
Thompson, and Paul H. Bush; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial service was July 10 at Denton-First UMC, officiated by Rev. Lisa

Carol Campbell
Caroline June “Carol” Campbell, 75, of Sulphur died Feb. 1, 2010. She was the widow
of Rev. Joseph Eldon “Joe” Campbell Jr. He died in 2002.
Carol was born Oct. 7, 1934, at St. Joseph, Mo., to Edwin and LaVena Reedy Jostmeyer.
She and Rev. Campbell married on Feb. 20, 1955, in McLouth, Kan.
For many years, she was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. After moving
to Sulphur, she worked as a cook at Oklahoma Veterans Center. She was a member of
Sulphur United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and Davis Business & Professional
Women’s Organization. Among other interests was china painting.
Survivors include three children: Bill, Jolene, and Patsy; six grandchildren and several
great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Feb. 4 at Sulphur UMC, with Rev. Rick Trobaugh officiating, and burial

Kathleen Coffin
Kathleen Coffin, 84, of Oklahoma City, died Dec. 14, 2009. She was the wife of Rev.
Wayne Coffin, who retired in 1991.
Kathleen was born March 4, 1925, in Lake City, Fla. While attending Duke University,

she met Rev. Coffin, and they were married on Nov. 20, 1947.
She was a licensed real estate broker for 33 years, even serving grandchildren of
earlier clients. She had more than 25 successive million-dollar sales years.
She also was a skilled dressmaker, known for tailored clothing and her hat creations.
She also attended Jacksonville University and Florida State.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Pamela, of St. Louis, Mo., and Priscilla,
of Vail, Colo.; and son Scott, of Minneapolis, Minn.
Memorial service was Dec. 19 at OKC-Crown Heights UMC, with Bishop Bill Oden
officiating.
Thelma Cooley
Thelma Beatrice Reed Cooley, 94, died March 25, 2010, in San Antonio, Texas. She
was the widow of Rev. Charles Raymond Cooley.
Thelma was born Feb. 27, 1916, to Etta Ann and Harry Myers, on a farm near Gage. A
graduate of Northwestern Oklahoma State College, she was a teacher for 36 years. She first
taught in a one-room country school, and her last teaching assignment was at Lamont-Deer
Creek Elementary. She was honored as Grant County Teacher of the Year.
She and Wesley Reed, a farmer, were married 25 years. After his death, she also
managed the farming business. She received the Kay County Conservation District award
for good farming practices.
In 1982, she met and married Rev. Cooley, who was pastoring at Blackwell-First
UMC. He retired in 1985. The couple moved to San Antonio in 2004. They also were
married 25 years; he died in 2008.
Thelma was a longtime member of Lamont UMC and later a member of the Blackwell
church, where she sang in the choir. She took part in many civic activities, including Beta
Sigma Phi, Blackwell Regional Hospital Auxiliary (2,245 hours of service), 4-H, and Red
Cross.
Survivors include seven children, Lila Reed Roberts of San Antonio, John Reed of
Stanwood, Wash., Ed Cooley of Longwood, Fla., Mike Cooley of Magnolia, Texas, Ruth
Hicks of Weatherford, Ramona Rossen of Piedmont, and Rachel Tarantola of Tulsa; nine
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Service was March 30 at Blackwell-First, officiated by Rev. Kristen Brown. Burial

Zula Higgins
Zula Higgins, 84, of Stigler died Feb. 2, 2010. She was the wife of Rev. William J.
“Bill” Higgins, who retired in 1987 after serving churches in Oklahoma since 1952.
Zula was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Keota to Elza and Lavina Thomas Dunkin.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Higgins; five daughters, Charlotte Idleman
and Myrna Parrish, both of Stigler, Willene McKee of Broken Arrow, Darla Dunham of
Coweta, and Shanna Snyder of Hidden Hills, Calif.; son Ronald Higgins of Oklahoma
City; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She
was predeceased by two sons.

Helen Martin
Helen Wallis Martin, 84, of Norman died Oct. 20, 2009. She was the widow of Rev.
George Leroy Martin, who died in 2000.

Helen was born June 26, 1925, in Brazil, Ind., to Alfred and Roxie Orman Wallis. A
registered nurse, she joined the Navy in 1947 and served on a hospital ship. On Sept. 14,
1952, in Memphis, Tenn., she married Rev. Martin, a U.S. Navy chaplain at the time. The
Martins reportedly are among the nation’s first dual-career military couples; they served
together in Japan and stateside.
The family moved to Norman in 1972, where she continued her career at Norman
Municipal Hospital and for the American Red Cross. She also volunteered as a senior
citizens center nurse for almost 20 years.
At the McFarlin church, she was active in United Methodist Women and Douglas
Bible Study.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Martin-Rivas, and two granddaughters.
Funeral service was Oct. 27 at the McFarlin church, with Rev. Phil Fenn officiating, and

Katherine Milner
Katherine “Katie” Ann Moore Milner, 81, died April 2, 2010. She was the widow of
Rev. Robert “Bob” Milner, who died in 1992.
She was born May 6, 1928, in Osaka, Japan, to Boude Chambers Moore and Anna
Hepburn McAlpine Moore, a missionary couple. The family moved back to the United
States when she was 12.
Katie and Bob met while she was a student at Austin College, Sherman, Texas; their
first date was singing together while he preached at a jail. They married on May 31,
1949.
Katie taught in Oklahoma, beginning in 1965, often at schools near churches led by
Rev. Milner.
Survivors include daughters Paula Wright of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ruth Morgan of
Broken Arrow; sons Matt Milner of Broken Arrow, Tom Milner of Overland Park, Kan.,
and Peter Milner of Tulsa; children and grandchildren.
Memorial service was April 10 at Broken Arrow-First UMC.
Dorothy Moore
Dorothy Pearl White-Moore, 91, of Oklahoma City died Feb. 23, 2010. She was the
widow of Rev. Leslie Orman White.
Dorothy was born in Alma on April 15, 1918, to a pioneer Methodist minister, Rev.
J.E. Legg, and Viola Pearl Rummange. When Rev. Legg was pastor at Duncan-Stephens
UMC, she met Leslie White there. They married on Feb. 29, 1937, in Comanche.
She shared in ministry with Rev. White for more than 40 years. They superintended
Frances Willard Home for Girls in Tulsa for five years. She also worked 22 years for
Dillard’s.
She held almost every office in the Women’s Society of Christian Service and, early
in life, was presented a lifetime membership in the Lawton District of the Society. Civic
activities included Eastern Star and the Business & Professional Women’s Club of Oklahoma
City.
Rev. White died in 1979. Dorothy married Charles C. Moore in March 1987; he died
in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Sue Snow of Oklahoma City, four grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren. A daughter also predeceased her.

Elizabeth Parham
Elizabeth “Beth” Parham, 90, of Enid died April 27, 2009. She was the widow of Rev.
B. Orville Parham, who died in 1982.
Beth was born Dec. 5, 1918, in Wetumka to Stanley and Bess Phillips Swengel. She
and Orville married on July 12, 1935, in Wetumka.
She was a childcare director for First United Methodist Church of Enid for 12 years,
and she worked 15 years in the nursery at Christ United Methodist Church. She also was
active in Mothers Day Out.
The couple worked four years at the Britton Boys and Girls Home, in Britton. Rev.
Parham began serving churches in 1941, and the couple moved to Enid in June 1974, when
he retired.
She was a member of First UMC, United Methodist Women, and PEO Chapter GF.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry, of Enid.
Memorial service was April 30 at Enid-First, officiated by Rev. David Wiggs. Private

Louise Roberts
Louise Shook Roberts, 85, died Sept. 24, 2009. She was the widow of Rev. Howard W.
Roberts, who died in 2007. They were married for 65 years.
Louise was born March 3, 1924, in Cogar to Sam and Ina Payton Shook. She was a
graduate of Oklahoma City University and the University of Central Oklahoma.
She was a middle-school teacher for 19 years and a Sunday school teacher and
member of United Methodist Women for more than 60 years. In 1987, she was honored as
the Oklahoma Mother of the Year.
Survivors include daughters Kyle Dahlem, Kaye Roberts, and Laura Harmon; sons
Darryl Roberts and Sam Roberts; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

FayDel Sewell
FayDel Sewell, 85, of Yukon, died March 11, 2010. She was the widow of Rev. O.
LeRoy Sewell, who died in 1987.
She was born in Black Rock, Ark., on Oct. 25, 1924, to Roy M. and Lilly Fay Black.
FayDel and LeRoy married on May 28, 1944, at Epworth UMC. She attended Oklahoma
City University.
She was a housewife and active in the churches her husband pastored. She was a
Sunday school teacher, choir member, and church pianist/organist. The Sewell Prayer
Chapel in the planned Wesley Center at Oklahoma City University will honor the couple.
Survivors include three children, Carol Lansdown of Oklahoma City, Mark Sewell
of Altus, and Stanford Sewell of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren; and three greatgrandsons.
Graveside service was March 15 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City. Memorial

Eva Wehrman
Eva Jean Wehrman, 78, of Canton died Sept. 30, 2009. She was the wife of Rev.
Richard Leon Wehrman, who serves Canton UMC.
The youngest of 11 children, Eva was born Sept. 1, 1931, in southern Illinois. She
committed her life to Christ in the Marissa Methodist Church and answered God’s call to
mission at Asbury College.
She and Rev. Wehrman met at the college and married in 1954. A year later they were
commissioned as missionaries.
Between 1955 and 1995, the couple served as missionaries in seven places in the
Philippines. Their assignment was through the General Board of Global Ministries.
Proficient in two Philippine languages, Mrs. Wehrman often spoke in churches on special
Sundays. Her interest in Christian education led to counseling opportunities, development
of curriculum, and leadership in Bible studies.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Wehrman; daughters Karen Graves of Woodward
and Esther Otero of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 2 at Woodward-First and Oct. 3 at Grace UMC,

Aleta Winkler
Aleta Imogene Bowers Winkler, 74, of Oklahoma City died Aug. 7, 2009. She was the
wife of Rev. John H. “Jack” Winkler Jr., retired.
Aleta was born Sept. 7, 1934, in Liberal, Kan. She earned college degrees in music at
Asbury College and the University of Central Oklahoma. She was a homemaker, gifted
pianist, and music teacher.
She married Jack Winkler in 1956. Rev. Winkler began his ministry career in 1959.
The couple served Oklahoma churches during almost 40 years of ministry.
Mrs. Winkler was a member and officer of OKC Ladies’ Music Club and Sigma
Alpha Iota Patroness. She regularly played piano for the Triquetra Sunday School Class.
Survivors include Rev. Winkler, daughter Stephanie Winkler Bouc, son John
Christopher Winkler, three grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

Mildred Wolff
Mildred Naomi Kathleen Atkins Wolff, 91, of Wilburton died Oct. 9, 2009. She was
the widow of Rev. Walter Richard Wolff Sr., who died in 1996.
Mildred Naomi Kathleen was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Chelsea to Earl M. and Hallie
Galloway Atkins. She was a homemaker. Active in church life, she helped with Vacation
Bible School and was involved at local and district levels of United Methodist Women.
She headed up the Lay Speakers efforts, including training, in Bartlesville District. She
was a member of Extension Homemakers.
Survivors include sons Walter Richard Wolff Jr. of Jenks and Udell Herman Wolff of
Harrisonville, Mo., five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Service was Oct. 17 at Chelsea UMC, with Revs. James Graham and Dave Karges
