DBA Misterio – Mystery at High Seas! Part 2
It is your turn to ask the questions as you prepare to interview an important eyewitness to the crime.
After the first round of suspect interviews Carmen, Miguel & Manuel’s activity remain suspicious. Some new
leads emerged with one of our own students, Chase (un pasajero) admitting to being in the “biblioteca con el
artefacto”. Do you think he stole the artefact? Also, it was discovered that the museum docent may have
seen suspicious activity not only “en la nave” but also” en el hotel” and across from the pier at the port of call
as they boarded the transportation to go into Mexico City! She reported to the police that she saw “el
mesonero y la criada” from the ship cross the street and go into the hotel with Chase not far behind, she
followed them and saw where they went, who they talked to and what they did, but kept her distance so as
not to be discovered (she was unable to hear their conversations).


Detectives, your job is to ask the docent (played by your teacher) at least 3 questions that may help you
determine if what she saw (“el mesonero, la criada y el pasajero”) is really a clue to help solve the case or
if she is just hyping this up to cover for not doing her job and protecting the priceless artifact. Find out
who they talked with, where they went (ir) first and later, what they were carrying (llevar), and any other
pertinent information that can be observed by sight since she was too far away to hear what was said.
Write your questions using vocabulary we have learned so far and the preterit tense. Here are some
words you can use and a sample question to get you started:
Quién= who
Dónde= where
Qué=what
Con = with
Cuándo= when
Cómo=how
Cuánto=how much Cuántos=how many
Después= after
Primero=first
If you wanted to ask the docent when did the waiter and the maid go to the hotel you need to:
Start with the question word: ¿Cuándo.. (don’t forget the question mark at the beginning!)
2. Then add the verb since you are asking when they went use “ir” (to go) in
the ELLOS form: ..fueron..
3. Then add where they went which is the hotel: ..el hotel?
1.
¿Cuándo fueron al hotel? - When did they go to the hotel?
For our expense report on this investigation, we need to know which city you, our detectives, went to and what you
did or where you ate, so be prepared to answer these questions about yourself using the preterite tense. (Remember
that you investigated activities in one of three cities for your assignment.)
Be prepared to share your theory of what you think the waiter, maid & passenger (Chase)
were doing at the hotel based on the docent’s answers.
Prepare your questions and set your DBA appointment when you are ready
with all your Unit 3 assignments completed:
