Settlebeck School Pastoral Coordinator Job Description 0.675, term time only plus 1 week Temporary for 12 months in the first instance Salary: Scale 6, points 26 to 28, £23,166 to £24,717 – pro rata (£15,637) Hours: Term Time plus one week 5 hours a day 8.30 to 1.30 Note: attendance at appropriate Parent’s Evenings will be a requirement with Time off in Lieu (TOIL) The job description may include all such other duties as the Head and Governors may reasonably expect from time to time. Purposes of the Post The post will carry four primary functions: 1. 2. 3. 4. General pastoral support for students in Years 7 to 11 Monitoring and intervention for students with attendance issues Monitoring and intervention for Pupil Premium Students General intervention support for students underachieving in more than one subject area or with behavioural issues. Note this will not require the post holder to have specific subject knowledge rather to support students to develop the generic skills required to be successful in school; i.e. personal organisation, time management, prioritising, social and interpersonal skills etc. Relationships 1. The post-holder reports to Assistant Headteacher 2. The post-holder interacts with other professional colleagues, should establish and maintain productive relationships and promote mutual understanding of our aim to improve the quality of the student experience at Settlebeck School. 1 Main Responsibilities Pastoral Care General pastoral support for students monitoring, wellbeing and development within school Manage the system of rewards within the school and ensure the recognition of all students who show determined effort and/or academic or extra-curricular achievement Build strong relationships with students and their families Contribute to the regular checking and effective use of Student Planners To ensure the effective communication of information to all identified parties To work with Year 11 students to prepare for an end of year celebration/Prom Acting as first point of reference for issues relating to student, welfare and behaviour Prompt response to parental concerns Prompt referral of more serious issues to Education Social Worker or Assistant Head as appropriate Liaison with outside agencies appropriate to the role Intervening with students requiring support to help develop generic strategies and skills required for success in secondary education Management of arrangements for Parents Consultation Evening, including letter & text to parents, student appointments, set up arrangements & refreshments, supported by the Pastoral Administrator Support in interviewing new students Organisation of work for excluded or isolated students To manage students on report at the appropriate level Attendance Monitoring students’ attendance and punctuality Where necessary/appropriate to make home visits with another colleague to address attendance issues or where parents find it difficult to get in to school Expected Standards All relevant parties (staff, students and parents) are critically aware of areas of concern, appropriate interventions are in place Rewards are effective Strong, trusting relationships established Planners are an effective tool for student, staff and parents Strong lines of communication Prom is valued and appropriate Students and parents know who to refer to Response is 24 hours or less Serious issues or students causing concern in several areas are quickly identified Students with more complex needs are quickly referred to outside agencies Intervention is successful Parents’ Consultation evening run smoothly School secures good working knowledge of all new students prior to arrival Work is provided in a timely manner by subject staff Reports are well managed Issues are quickly identified and appropriate strategies put in place Strong links are made with hard to reach families 2 Liaison with Educational Welfare Officer Undertake Lead Practitioner role for Early Help Assessments related to attendance and medical (non SEN) issues Pupil Premium To maintain up to date records of Disadvantaged students, monitoring Pupil Premium spending and the impact on outcomes To work with Pupil Premium students to support and facilitate appropriate additional interventions To report to SLT on Pupil Premium outcomes on a ½ termly basis Whole School To co-ordinate the work of the School Council Security First Aid To maintain a regular first aid qualification To be available as required to provide first aid for students or staff as part of a team of first aiders General Dress & Appearance To maintain the highest standards of smart business dress To sustain a pleasant and co-operative demeanour at all times Self-Development To continually seek development opportunities in order to improve personal performance Attitude To act as a professional and positive ambassador for the school in order to support the school’s mission and profile Policy Promotion To actively promote the school’s Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, Data Protection policies to ensure that the school operates effectively and fairly in line with legislative requirements Attendance meets school target Persistent absentees are appropriately managed and supported EH Assessments completed The school is critically aware of the impact of Pupil Premium and other disadvantaged spending Pupil Premium and other disadvantaged students are appropriately supported SLT receive regular reports and are able to develop appropriate strategies from this information School Council provides an effective voice for students First aid is prompt, sympathetic and effective A positive image is portrayed at all times CPD co-ordinator is advised of training needs Development opportunities are sought and acted upon Positive / constructive feedback from parents / students / visitors / colleagues / supporters.
