ASSESSMENT:Administeringpsychologicaltestsorassessments

includedhere. Keepacurrentlistofalltests administered,howmanyofeach,andwhetheryouwrotea

NeuropsychologicalAssessment:Anassessmentofhowaclient’sbrainstructurallyfunctions.Include
intellectualassessmentinthiscategoryonlywhenitwasadministeredinthecontextof
neuropsychologicalassessmentinvolvingevaluationofmultiplecognitive,sensoryandmotorfunctions.
PsychodiagnosticTestAdministration:Usingoral,written,orprojectivemethodsasadiagnostic
procedure.Includesymptomassessment,projectives,personality,objectivemeasures,achievement,
intelligence,andcareerassessment.Alsoincludesprovidingfeedbacktoclients/patients.
INTERVENTION:Activitiesinvolvingdirectface-to-facecontactwithaclient
Reportnumberofhoursindirectservicetoclientsaccordingtothecategorieslistedbelow.Youwillneed
toknowthenumberofdifferentindividualsorgroupsthatyouserved;forexampleifyouprovided
individualcounselingtoonestudentandalsoconductedthreedifferentsocialskillsgroups,youwould
have1individualand3groups.

Supervision
Inthissection,youwilldocumenttheamountoftimethatyouhavespentreceivingsupervision.For
thepurposesofthissection,supervisioncanbeprovidedbylicensedpsychologists,licensedallied
mentalhealthproviders(e.g.,socialworkers,marriageandfamilytherapists,psychiatrists),and
advanceddoctoralstudentswhosesupervisionissupervisedbyalicensedpsychologist.Supervision
activityinvolvesaformalevaluativecomponent,andmayincludebothsupervisionreceivedasan
individual(i.e.,one-to-one)andwithinagroup.Supervisionthatyouhaveprovidedtolessadvanced
studentsshouldnotberecordedinthissection,andmayinsteadbeincludedinthe“Intervention
Experience”section.
Threecategoriesofsupervisionareidentified. Supervisionisdifferentiatedbyafocuson specific
cases,withtheintentofoverseeingthosecases.
1. Regularlyscheduled,individual,face-to-facesupervision-Individualsupervisionisdefinedas
regularlyscheduled,one-on-one,face-to-facesupervisionwiththespecificintentofoverseeing
thepsychologicalservicesrenderedbythesupervisee.
2. Groupsupervision(seminartimespentincasediscussion)-Groupsupervisionisdefinedas
regularlyscheduled,face-to-facesupervisionwithmultiplesupervisees,withthespecificintent
ofoverseeingthepsychologicalservicesrenderedbythesupervisees.
3. Peersupervision
**Manyexcellentpracticumcoursesincorporatebothdidacticandexperientialcomponentsinthecourse
activity.Whilethedidacticportionisexcellenttraining,itshouldnotberecordedasasupervisionactivity;
itshouldinsteadberecordinthe“SupportActivities”section.Thismaynecessitatedividingthehours
spentinapracticumcourseintointervention,supervision,anddidacticactivitiesbyactualcoursehours.
Forexample,ifyoupresentonthe“PsychosocialIssuesofHIVInfection”usingexamplesofcases,itisa
didacticactivity.Similarly,GrandRoundsthatconsistofin-serviceeducationonspecifictopicswouldnot
beconsideredsupervision,butwouldbeconsideredasupportactivity.
TreatmentSettings
InanothersectionoftheAAPIOnline(“InterventionExperience”),youwillbeaskedtosummarizeyour
practicumexperiencebypopulationandtypeofintervention.Inthissection,youwillsummarizethat
samepracticumexperiencebythesettinginwhichitoccurred.
Youshouldincludeonlythosehoursthatqualifyaspracticumexperienceandinvolveeitherassessment
orintervention.“Qualifiedpracticumexperience”isthatwhichhasbeenformallysanctionedbyyour
graduateprogram.
DiversePopulations/ClientandSettingCharacteristics
Inadditiontologgingnumberofhoursengagedinassessment/intervention,support,and supervision
activities,youneedtokeeparecordofthefollowing.
1. ageofclient
2. gender(male/female/transgendered)
3. race/ethnicity
4. disability/diagnosis(physical/orthopedic,vision,hearing,learning/cognitive,
developmentaldisability,seriousmentalillnesswhichincludessevere developmental

Inthissection,youshouldspecifyyourpracticumexperiencewithdiversepopulationsina
professionaltherapy/counseling/assessmentcapacity.Indicatethenumberofclientsseenfor
assessmentandinterventionforeachofthediversepopulationslisted.Youmaynothave
informationforsomeofyourclients/patientsonsomeoftheitems,soonlyindicatethe
informationthatisknown.
Includeundertheassessmentcolumnthoseclients/patientsforwhomyouperformedassessments
and/orintakeinterviews.Forthissection,youmayincludeasingleclient/patientinmorethanone

AdditionalNotesonAPPICRequirements
1. Apracticumhourisactualtime,notsemesterhour;a45-50minutesessioncanbe countedasa
fullhour.
2. Practicumhoursaremutuallyexclusive–youmaynotcountanactivityunder morethanone
category(assessment/intervention,support,orsupervision).
3. PracticumisdefinedasformaltrainingsanctionedbytheUniversityprogramfor whichyou
receiveacademiccreditandsupervision.
4. Otherclinicalorprofessionalexperiencemaybedocumentedinamannersimilar tobut
separatefrompracticumhours.
5. Inlistingspecifictestsadministered,youmaycombinenumbersfrompracticum, work,and
researchexperiences(butnotpracticeadministrations).
6. Inadditiontonumberofreportswrittenforspecifictestsadministered,APPIC asksforthe
numberofintegratedreportswritten,whichincludes: history, interview,andatleasttwo
testsadministered.
