accessories closer to the actuator,
resulting in a more compact, precise
assembly, and eliminates the need for
coupling.
• Spring return model design requires no
special tools to safely and easily disarm
the spring in the field, reducing down
time and providing a ‘man safe’ spring.

Actuator failure
The most common cause of actuator
failure is wear on the seals. If condensed
water from air lines collects in an
aluminum or steel cylinder, pitting will
occur. Pitting will eventually destroy a
seal and cause piston “blow by” and
ultimate failure.
The Morin Actuator “High Performance”
materials are unaffected by water.
All seals come in contact only with 316
stainless steel. Piston bearings, piston
rod bushings and output shaft bushings
are Teflon®. Structural members
including the yoke, output shaft and roller
bearings are made from heat treated
stainless steel. This is the same material
most valve manufacturers use on high
performance butterfly valve shafts.
The Morin Actuator is designed to
perform in the most demanding corrosive
environments.
This includes a “nice, clean, noncorrosive”
plant with water in its air lines.

Principles of Construction
Spring Designed for Safety
By incorporating the latest
manufacturing technology for high
production, cylinder honing and
machining and the use of investment
castings, Morin has developed a product
with high integrity and low cost. The
actuator housing, cylinder and end caps
on the actuators are all 316 stainless
steel, as are the piston, piston rod and
rod cover. All seals are BUNA-N as
standard. Piston guide rings, piston rod
bushings and output shaft bushings are
Teflon®. Structural members, including
the yoke, output shaft and roller
bearings, are manufactured from
precipitation-hardened, 17-4 PH
stainless steel.
All spring return models incorporate a
‘man safe’ spring design that allows the
actuator to be safely assembled and
disassembled in the field without the
need for special tools. The integral tie
rods are bored and tapped to provide a
means of loading and unloading the
spring in a safe and convenient manner.
NAMUR Drive Slot
Each actuator is provided with a
NAMUR drive slot for limit switches and
positioners. This allows for simple direct
mounting without the need for couplings.
ISO 5211 Mounting
(Models 135 through 1150*)
To provide the greatest flexibility for
valve adaptation, each model has a
mounting pattern designed in
accordance with International
Organization for Standardization (ISO)
requirements.
Field Reversible Failure Mode
On Models 006 through 100 and 144,
the ‘open-shut-open’ indicator plate
allows the use of the same indicator and
pointer when the failure mode needs
to be reversed. When changing from
‘fail-close’ to ‘fail-open’ on spring return
models, simply mount the stainless steel
position indicator plate and pointer on
the opposite side of the actuator. The
position indicator plate and pointer can
be mounted parallel or perpendicular to
the actuator centerline.
Bi-directional Travel Stops
Adjustable stops on each end cap
provide the flexibility of accurate valve
rotation positioning at the end of the
‘open’ and ‘close’ stroke. Both stops are
located on the cylinder centerline, the
optimal position to maximize travel
adjustment and eliminate any
detrimental side loading on the travel
stops. Adjustable from 82° to 98°.

AVID Control Accessories
Tyco Valves & Controls has a complete range of control accessories available, for integration for
the Morin Series S actuators to achieve complete process control, from simple on/off solenoid
valve control to integrated Network systems.
Solenoid Valves
A comprehensive range of solenoid valves is available for
controlling the pneumatic supply to the actuator cylinder by
means of an electrical signal. Alternative specifications of
solenoid valves include: Weatherproof to NEMA 4, 4X
Explosion proof to NEMA 4, 7, 9 Intrinsically safe to Class I

AVID® Position Monitors
The AVID range of Position Monitoring equipment offers
models for all service classifications, each model
incorporating numerous user-friendly features, including
HiVue® Local Visual Display, EasiFix® Switch Adjustment
and ModMount® Assembly facilities.
EaziCal Positioners
AVID Analog Positioners
The AVID range of Control Positioners offers a variety of
solutions to the precise positioning of rotary and linear
pneumatic actuators. These positioners are suitable for use
with either double acting and spring return actuators, and
are mounted to the actuator housing either directly with
ModMount or NAMUR (VDI/VDE 3845) standards. These
units also provide the simplest form of installation and
calibration as standard, without the requirement for
additional equipment.
Network Solutions
Using the extensive resources of the AVID product range,
Tyco Valves & Controls is able to provide actuated valve
packages, capable of integration within field
communications networks and interfacing with the major
Network protocols currently in use throughout process
industries. The AVID range on PlantNet® Monitors facilitates
communication with AS-Interface, DeviceNet and Profibus
Network Protocols to enable complete system integration of
all valve units. Other protocols available on request.
