Spelling:
Extend the knowledge of spelling strategies and apply to high frequency and cross-curricular words
Children will be encouraged to use joined up writing in all their work.
Numeracy








Add 3-digit and 1-digit numbers mentally, using number facts; subtract 1-digit numbers from 3-digit numbers mentally using
number facts; add and subtract multiples of 10 by counting on and back in 10s and using number facts to cross 100s; compare
and order fractions with the same denominator; begin to recognise equivalences of 1/2; add and subtract fractions with the
same denominator
Multiply by 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 and understand the inverse; use scaling to multiply heights and weights by 2, 4, 8, 5 and 10; use
known facts to multiply multiples of 10 by 2, 3, 4 and 5; multiply numbers between 10 and 30 by 3, 4 and 5 using the grid
method; multiply 2-digit numbers by 3, 4, 5 and 8 using the grid method
Divide without remainders, just beyond the 12th multiple; division using chunking, with remainders; use the grid method to

Draw and interpret bar charts and pictograms where one square/symbol represents two units; compare and measure weights

Children will have Science lessons on Tuesday.

Art and Design Technology
Children will be doing work related to our Creative Curriculum topics
P.E.
Swimming this term will be on Monday and P.E /Games on Tuesday (next half term). Please ensure that your child
has a correct and clearly labeled P.E. uniform. Please ensure that all their belongings (even their socks) have their names
clearly displayed next to the labels. P.E./swimming bags must have children’s names on the front.
The swimming bags will be sent home after each lesson and children should bring them back as soon as possible. P.E kit
needs to be in school everyday
Computing
The children will use laptops and ipads in class.
The computing topics this term are:
We are bug fixers - finding and correcting bugs in programs
We are presenters – video performance
R.E.
Year 3 will be learning about people from the Old Testament.
Creative Curriculum
Our first topic is Tribal Tales – We head back to pre-historic times (5000 year ago) We will learn how the people of
Britain developed over thousands of years from Stone age to Roman Invasion. – School trip to Museum of London –
Friday 28th April 2017, Celtic Harmony – Wednesday 24th May 2017
Our second topic is Flow – We will learn about some of the world’s most majestic rivers – The Granges, The Thames,
The Amazon and the Nile. – School Trip to Lee Valley – Thursday 29th June 2017
Homework
Reading- on a daily basis. Please fill in and sign the Reading diaries weekly and send in with the homework. Remember
to discuss the books with your child. This will improve their comprehension skills
Children will be able to choose a book from the class library and keep it until they finish reading it. They can change
their book on any day of the week. The variety of classroom books is limited and must be supplemented with regular
visits to a Public Library.
Children will get spellings on Tuesday, spelling test the following Tuesday
Numeracy and literacy/creative curriculum homework will be handed out on a Tuesday and collected the following
Monday.
Please help your children learn their times tables.
Children might be occasionally given extra homework/ project work to do at home.
Please ensure that the children do their homework and bring it to school on the day it is due. The homework is
designed to reinforce what they are learning in school and should be timetabled into their week.
