Progressive Era Poster Project
(Test Grade for Chapter 9)
Objective – Analyze a Progressive Era reform issue and create a digital
(PowerPoint) poster that highlights one side of that issue. In addition to the
poster, students will create text slides that summarize the issue, and
describe in detail arguments for and against the reform.
Format/Media – The “poster” and written portions of the assignment will
be created in PowerPoint, and submitted electronically, via a shared Google drive or thumb drive.
Project Requirements –
 Poster Slide
o A descriptive title or slogan on the poster slide.
o Use of multiple, appropriate images or Illustrations (from Internet sources or original).
o Other text boxes as needed to complement the images on the poster.
 Text Slides
o Seven to ten facts (in a bullet list) immediately following the poster slide that summarizes the
main issues related to the reform.
o At least two typed paragraphs that detail the supporting and opposing arguments or
viewpoints. Students may use several slides, if needed, for these paragraphs.
o A Sources or Works Cited slide.
 Presentation of project to class. Note: Students may present their project from their seat; they do
NOT have to stand in front of the class (1-3 minutes per presentation).
Notes on Creating the Project
Students MAY –
 Use any combination of appropriate images, cartoons or art found on the Internet. (If you are unsure
of whether an image is appropriate, ask your instructor.)
 Create their own images for the poster.
 Paraphrase web sites and articles for the summary and detail text slides.
Students MAY NOT –
 Simply copy an entire, existing poster from the progressive era.
 Copy/paste or otherwise plagiarize the text of other writers.

of the Early 21st Century
• The Pro-Free Cookie movement (aka the “Cookieites”) argue that cookies are delicious!
• Cookie-ites have formed many groups to support
their fre-cookie agenda, such as the American Cookie
Society of America (or ACSA), and Americans for
Cookie Freedom (or ACF).
• Some surveys show that 98.7% of Americans would
take free cookies if offered.
• Girl Scouts are against the free cookie movement,
saying it would destroy their fundraising efforts.
• The Cookie-ites have countered that the Girl Scouts
could easily replace the revenue lost to the “free
cookie” movement by selling light bulbs.
• Mr. Hicks and other important “opinion leaders”
appreciate many type of cookies, and are generally in
favor of free cookies – in moderation.
• The Cookie-ites argue that cookies are more
environmentally friendly than brownies, and that free
cookies will boost many sectors of the economy.
• Anti-cookie groups, such as the Girl Scouts, the
American Dental Association, and Americans for
Responsible Cookie Consumption (ARCC) argue that
free cookies will harm the nation’s health and
economy.
