PROGRAMME 1
1 Year – Enrichment Programme in Islamic Studies
This programme is specifically designed for
individuals who wish to take a “gap year” from their
studies or work. The programme enhances spiritual
consciousness and provides a deeper understanding
of Islam. A student will gain a solid introduction
to various fields of Islamic knowledge including
literacy, research skills, as well as leadership
capabilities, which ultimately aims at inspiring moral
regeneration. The programme, thus, acts as a catalyst
for change.
For 2014 the Enrichment Programme in
Islamic Studies (EPI) launches, the inclusion of
IPSA’s specially designed ‘Leadership & Youth
Development’ subject. Completing the EPI will allow
entrance into the IPSA Bachelors of Arts Islamic
Studies Programme.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
• Applicants require a National Senior Certificate.

3 Year – Bachelors of Arts Islamic Studies
The ultimate purpose of the BA Islamic Studies
programme is to produce graduates with a core set
of skills and knowledge that meets the needs of those
seeking a deeper and thorough understanding of
Islam. The programme acts as a platform for further
postgraduate and other studies in the field and
provides a thorough basis for those wishing to become
religious functionaries. This course will enable the
student to major in two main fields in Islamic Studies,
Shari`ah Law and Arabic.
The Programme Aims To Equip Students With:
• Core knowledge of the major Islamic disciplines.
• Key disciplines of Islamic Law, Quranic exegesis
and Prophetic precepts.
• Induction into Arabic, the language of Islam’s
primary sources and the principle language of its
scholarship.

• Tertiary academic conventions through specific
modules of academic development, research and
writing skills.
• A key set of academic skills and a thorough
sensitivity to the South African context in which
this knowledge is applied.
• Through Islamic History, Religious Studies and
contextual nature of Islamic law students are
made fully cognizant of issues relating to diversity
and context.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: .
• Applicants require a National Senior Certificate
(NSC) endorsed bachelors.
• Or NSC endorsed with matriculation exemption.
• English must be one of the subjects completed,
either as a 1st or 2nd language.
• An applicant with a NSC with four passed
subjects that were completed in 1year, with

NON-SOUTH AFRICAN APPLICANTS:
• Must have permanent residence.
• Or must have refugee status with permanent
residence permission.
• Or must have been granted asylum with
permanent residency status.
• Applicants must provide a copy of their original
passport with an South African immigration
stamp of residence status.
• Requirements for students still residing outside
of South Africa should be made at their nearest
South African diplomatic mission.
• Any foreign certificate must be evaluated by the
South African Qualification Authority (SAQA)
before an application is made to IPSA.
• Foreign student who have not complied with the
certificate evaluation, will NOT be considered for
enrolment.

• Applications fees are non-refundable.
• A non-refundable penalty for late applications.
• The student registration deposit comprises of:
a) R500 non-refundable registration fee.

The year is divided into two semesters. An academic calendar with set out dates of all academic
matters will be handed to the registering students during Orientation Week in January 2014.
