Linking people:
Complete mobility.
Mobility is one of the greatest challenges of our time.
To ensure our mobility both today and in the future, we
need fully networked transportation and information
systems.
Complete mobility.
Intelligent networking of city center and
metropolitan regions with pioneering
solutions for both road and rail.
We will only be able to meet future mobility requirements through efficient coordination and the perfect interaction of
all modes of transportation. With this in
mind, Siemens has adopted a “Complete
mobility“ approach, which is aimed at the
creation of integrated transportation and
logistics systems for safe, cost-effective
and sustainable passenger and freight
services. Siemens has all the necessary
expertise – from infrastructure systems
for railways and roadways to solutions for
rolling stock, airport logistics and postal
automation.
Today transportation solutions have to
be much more than the result of innovative development work and professional
production processes. Comprehensive
concepts, with integrated services tailored to the needs of the customer, are
required to achieve the desired results.
After all, you expect your railway systems
to be highly available throughout their
entire lifecycle.

Wegberg-Wildenrath Test- and Validationcenter
State-of-the-art infrastructure and expertise in testing at a single location –
this unique combination makes us the ideal partner for testing, validation and
certification.
Rail operators expect innovations that
function perfectly right from day one.
However, it is becoming more and more
difficult to carry out tests and trial runs
on increasingly busy public lines. The accredited and certified Wegberg-Wildenrath
Test- and Validationcenter is the logical
answer to changing conditions in rail
traffic, providing customized rail-system
testing services from a single source.
State-of-the-art infrastructure
Work pits, elevated track sections, roofheight working platforms, and bogie
changing devices in two 220-meter-long
train formation halls make it easy to gain
access to a vehicle from every conceivable angle, permitting a variety of tests to
be performed quickly and conveniently.
15
Standards-based test facilities
Measuring curve, turn-tilt table and vehicle weighing scales are just some of the
numerous test items we provide to give
you the results you need for acceptance
by the relevant certification authorities.
Special tests
Tilting coefficient, safety against derailment, high-voltage tests – with our
state-of-the-art infrastructure we can also
perform special tests.
You expect reliability –
we test it for you
The Test- and Validationcenter has been
certified and accredited for its test methods and procedures by independent
bodies. Whether stationary or dynamic,
there is virtually no limit to the tests that
can be performed at Wegberg-Wildenrath. You can rely on our wide range of
facilities for testing high-speed, mainline, regional and mass transit systems.
You want realistic conditions –
we have them
Thanks to an infrastructure in line with
the latest technological standards, we
can test practically all standard-gauge
and meter-gauge vehicles as well as rail
systems and components commonly used
throughout the world – 24 hours a day,
365 days a year. You can set the agenda
yourself by carrying out your own tests at
our facility under highly realistic conditions. Or have our specialists perform the
tests on your behalf – giving you the certainty that only systems of proven quality
leave the facility.
Track facilities for every need
Curve and gradient performance, braking
distance measurements, and measurement of noise levels – train operation under realistic conditions can be simulated
on 28 km of test track.
All from a single source
On request, we also offer an all-inclusive
service package, whereby we coordinate
the transfer of your vehicles to and from
the test center or actually carry out transfer ourselves.

Velaro RUS, Russia: Charter Rail for High Speed Trains
In 2009, Russia’s fastest train – achieving
speeds of up to 250 km/h – is placed
into service. At the same time, Siemens
enters into a maintenance agreement for
the next 30 years and sets up one of the
world’s most advanced maintenance depots, which uses innovative maintenance
technologies and methods, including
PDAs and Computerized Maintenance
Management Systems (CMMS). All the
technicians undergo intensive practical
and theoretical training – with successful
results. The Velaro RUS comes through
its first winter with flying colors, experiencing only two minor delays despite ice,
snow, and temperatures as low as -32°C.
Metro BTS Bangkok, Thailand: Full Service for a Turnkey System
As part of a 15-year contract, Siemens
has been maintaining Bangkok’s 35 airconditioned metro trains, signaling and
interlocking equipment, and operations
control center since the year 2000. Among
other things, the agreement also includes maintaining the medium-voltage power supply, the “third rail” power supply,
17
the track superstructure, and the depot
and workshop facilities for a line totaling
33 km. Thus, for over 10 years Siemens
has been ensuring that 99 % of the trains
reach their destinations on time.

HSL Zuid, The Netherlands: Full Service for Infrastructure
In 2006, the Dutch government contracts
with Siemens to maintain the HSL Zuid
railway network, comprising two lines
with a total length of 100 km. Besides the
power supply system and contact lines,
Siemens will also be maintaining all signaling technology and communications
equipment until 2031. To reduce distances and speed up response times, the
services are provided from two different
locations. In addition, a spare part store
is constructed near the main office in
Dordrecht. Since the start of the contract,
these services – which are coordinated by
an independent maintenance corporation
(IMBV) – have achieved all availability
goals.
Metro São Paulo, Brazil: Refurbishment of a whole fleet
Starting in 2009, the entire metro fleet
of the Companhia do Metropolitano de
São Paulo is being completely renovated and brought up to the technological
state of the art. Within a period of 63
months, Siemens modernizes all 150
car bodies and eliminates the central
driver’s cabs. In addition, subsystems
such as the traction unit, on-board power
supply, entrance doors, air conditioning,
compressed air supply, fire alarm system,
passenger information system and CCTV
are being replaced with new, modern
systems. These measures not only extend
the operational lifetime of the fleet, but
also increase passenger capacity.
