A Christ Caring People Who Gather Around Word and Sacrament,
Widee Missions
Yoked Together, In Personal Service to Christ in World Wid
. . . a great multitude from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing
before the throne and before the Lamb, . . . Revelation 7:9
As We Gather– One of the objections voiced in the Reformation
was over what was called "the cult of the saints" (Augsburg
Confession, Article XXI). The objection wasn't so much over
remembering the saints as it was over "to call on the saints or to
ask the saints for help." (Concordia: The Lutheran Confessions,
Concordia Publishing House, 2005, p. 70). Instead, the Reformers
taught, "our churches teach that the history of saints may be set
before us so that we may follow the example of their faith and
good works, according to our calling." The New Testament uses
the word "saints" in a different way. Six of St. Paul's letters are
addressed to the saints who live in various cities of the Roman Empire. These letters reveal both
virtue and sinfulness in these congregations. To the apostle, the word saint was a synonym for
Christian. Many of our congregations have combined these two ideas in recent years, reading the
names of those who have died to this life and been born to eternal life in the past twelve months
and thanking our God for the testimony of their lives. Today's service includes this
commemoration.
THE WELCOME AND OPENING PRAYER
If there are prayer concerns for you, your family, your friends, or your neighbors,
please put them on the blue information card. Our Board of Elders are prayerful with
our pastors about these joys and struggles of our earthly journey.

THE HOLY BAPTISM OF RUBY MARIE BONN LSB Page 268 11:00
Dearest Jesus, Ruby take, Shepherd take thy lamb and feed her,
Prince of Peace make here Thy throne, Way of life, to heaven lead her.
Precious Vine, let nothing sever, From Thy side this branch forever!
Lord, into Thy heart we pour, Prayers that from our hearts proceeded;
Our petitions heavenward soar; May our warm desires be heeded!
Write this name we now have given; Write it in the book of heaven.
THE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
P
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
C
who made heaven and earth.
P
If You, O Lord, kept a record to sins, who could stand?
C
P
C
P
But with You there is forgiveness; therefore, You are feared.
Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, let us first
consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned
in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition.
Together as His people, let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly
Father, seeking His Grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God be merciful to me, a
sinner.
Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting
life. Amen.
Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives
you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I
2
therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the † Son and of the
Holy Spirit.
[John 20:19-23]
C
Amen.

unspeakable joys You have prepared for those who love You; through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Holy Communion is celebrated at our 8:20 service today. In this Sacrament, our Lord brings us
strength and forgiveness to be about His vision and mission. Those confirmed Lutherans who
come to the Sacrament of the Altar today are asked to read the communion side of our
information card found in the pew rack and to sign the bottom of the reverse side so that our
communion records might be complete.
Early Communion Last Sunday, Reformation Sunday, seven more of our Midweek students
received their first communion following successful completion of the Early Communion classes.
They are: Dillon Axtell, Samantha Axtell, Adam Forman, Emily Haberling, Ethan Hill, Emma
Keith and Michael VanDeWiele.
The next Early Communion classes will be: Saturday, January 19 from 9:00-12:00 and
Saturday, January 26 from 9:00-10:30. Those attending the winter set of classes will be able to
commune on either Ash Wednesday, February 13 or the first Sunday in Lent, February 17.
Next Adult Inquirer’s Class Pastor Urbach will teach a winter Adult Inquirer’s class. It will
begin Thursday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. and will be done before Holy Week.
It is a great Biblical and Doctrinal review for our members and a way in which those
interested in becoming Lutheran and knowing what our church teaches may become members.

Certainly there will be games, activities, food, a time of worship, and more that you won’t want
to miss as we gather for a night of great fun and laughs here that evening. The lock-in will take
place from 7pm to 7am Friday, December 21st.

with each person that comes. If you have an activity that you would like to do, please let either
of us know!

Did you know… Racecar is the same word when spelt frontward or backward.
JYM Pizza Ranch Fundraiser Mark November 12th on your calendars for our JYM Pizza

up this event with Pastor Baumann. Please contact Pastor Baumann with any questions you
have 224-2216. We need all our JYM youth to participate. You will help bus tables, clean-up,
