“Looking Great!
Last time I gave you the bad news….like how we spend 90% of our time in our sealed
up tight homes, and how pollutants indoors are 1000 times more likely to reach your
lungs than pollutants outdoors; and how many homes today have 25 to 100 times
more pollutants in them than polluted outdoor air. But now it’s time for the good
news! You can do something to protect you and your family. And it won’t cost a lot of
money or time. The key is to be informed.
According the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) there are 3 things you can be
doing to combat the problem of unhealthy indoor air. www.epa.gov
#1: Source Control. This simply means get to the source of the pollution and either
contain it or eliminate it. This could be as simple as adjusting a gas stove to reduce
emissions. Adjustments like these are usually the most effective and cost efficient ways
to improve your indoor air quality.
#2: Ventilation. A second way to improve your indoor air quality is to bring some
of the outdoor air in. Today most homes have forced air heating systems and do
not bring fresh air into the home. However, simply opening windows or doors, or
operating window fans or a/c units with fresh air vents can bring in some fresh air. But,
keep in mind all this ventilation will make your home less energy efficient. Also, the
EPA emphasizes it is especially important to take as many of these steps as possible
while you are involved in activities that can generate high levels of pollutants – i.e.
painting, paint stripping, heating with kerosene heaters, or engaging in maintenance
and hobby activities such as welding, or sanding.
#3: Air Cleaners. When choosing an air cleaner do your research! There are a lot
of different ones on the market and some of them don’t do much to improve air
quality. Things to look for are: how well it collects pollutants from indoor air (look
for a percentage efficiency rate) and how much air it draws through the cleaning or
filtering element (look for cubic feet per minute). Also, look for what it removes. Most
air cleaners will claim to remove the usual allergens, but the higher end ones will also
remove viruses, and VOC’s. (Toxic off gasses.)
The EPA also had this to say, “Keep the house clean. House dust mites, pollens,
animal dander, and other allergy-causing agents can be reduced, although not
eliminated, through regular cleaning.”
Remember, your carpet is like a big filter. It traps pollutants and when it gets full it
redistributes them back into the air with every step you take. If it’s been more than
6-12 months since you had your carpets cleaned your “filter” (carpet) is probably full.

It’s A Mad, Mad, Digital World…
Discover How To Help Keep
Your Kids Safe Online!
The
Remember when we were kids our parents had to worry that we might
watch too much TV? It’s a whole new world! Today parents have to
worry about kids being exposed to illicit material, online predators, and
ruthless cyber bullies, not to mention narcissist values, social isolation,
and lack of privacy that can come with growing up online.
May The 4th Be With You!
Now of course, the Internet is a very useful tool, (how did we ever get along
without it?) and it will afford our kids and the generations to come possibilities
we only ever used to dream about. But, like any tool, it has to be respected and
used properly for maximum benefit and minimum risk. Like a chain saw, the
Internet is a tool with many benefits, but a tool that can be very dangerous in
inexperienced hands.
Case in point, check out this quote: “One out of every five kids gets sexual
solicitations online. Strangers, predators, and cyber-bullies all target children, and
their work is simplified when screen names reveal age, gender, or hometown.
If posts aren’t marked as private, personal information can be displayed to an
unrestricted audience of readers.” – www.scholastic.com
Thankfully, many schools today are teaching Internet safety, including how to
guard privacy. But what are some simple things that we can do at home to make
sure our kids are safe online?
Be shrewd about online activities. Many parents don’t realize just how easy it
is for their children to stumble upon inappropriate and dangerous material. Or,
how easily kids can converse with strangers via online video games and various
social media platforms.
Be Informed. Thank goodness schools are helping with this, but parents are vital
in educating their children on the dangers of using the Internet, keeping their
information private while online, the value of a good reputation, and how one
wrong post can wipe it out. Also, educate kids on the finality of posting pictures
and their words online, constantly remind kids that once something is posted, it is
out of their control, and it’s never coming back to them.
Be proficient. Knowledge is your power when it comes to your kids and the
Internet. Know what your kids are up to, check the history, and ask them who
they are conversing with. Set your security settings and establish a code of
conduct you find acceptable for your kids.
Growing up online can be awesome! When parents and educators keep kids
informed, they can avoid all the potential dangers and use the Internet to thrive.

May is an awesome month for many
reasons. It’s the height of spring,
there is Memorial day weekend, and
of course Cinco De Mayo. But one
of May’s best features has to be the
recent advent of Star Wars Day, May
the 4th.
The pun of saying “May the 4th
be with you” started a grassroots
movement to coin May 4th as “Star
Wars Day,” and it has grown from
there.
This is a fun day to pay homage to
the beloved story and characters.
You can dress up and share
your pictures with the hashtags
#Maythe4thbewithyou and
#StarWarsDay.
What better day to rent the movies
and spend an evening binge
watching them with your friends?
Plus, you’ll find tons of “Star Wars
Day Specials” on Star Wars themed
games, costumes and toys.
Fun facts: all 6 original Star Wars
movies debuted in May and May is
the month of creator, George Lucas’,
birthday. Whether or not you’re a
fan… “May the 4th be with you!”

Here Is The Easiest Way You’ll Ever Find To Shed
Up To 8 Pounds of Winter Weight This Spring!
Hello friend, isn’t this an exciting time of the year?
When we shed the weight of winter and make way
for those sunny spring days. But don’t get me wrong
I’m NOT talking about literal “winter weight” that
we may have picked up from one too many Christmas
cookies or too many nights on the couch with a good
movie and a pan of brownies over the winter.
No. The winter weight I’m referring to is lurking inside your
carpet. Studies show that there can actually be up to 8 pounds
of dirt and grime that gets pulled out of your carpets when
they are professionally cleaned. Yuck! And if that isn’t enough
of a reason to call then here are 4
more……
Reason #1: Your carpet warranty
may require it. You know, your
“warranty”, that little thing that holds
the manufacturer responsible for the
quality of your carpet. Well, in many
cases it could actually become void
if you don’t hold up your end of the
bargain and maintain your carpet
properly. Many carpet warranties
state very simply: “Have your carpets
professionally cleaned every 12 months”.
Reason #2: Your carpet requires it.
That’s right. Simply put, your carpet will
wear out and look terrible very fast if it is
not properly cleaned at least one time per
year. Even if you vacuum your carpets daily, you cannot remove
all of the dry soils and oils that build up in your carpet from
daily living. The dry soils actually cut at the carpet fibers and
can create permanent “traffic lanes”. And oils from cooking,
and even from our skin, get on the carpet fibers and attract dirt
that breaks down carpet fibers. Only professional cleaning can
remove this dirt and oil build up and restore, or prevent, your
carpet from looking worn before it’s time.
Reason #3: Your health requires it. Even if your carpets do not
look dirty, it is very likely that they are. Once, they appear dirty
you have let them go too long. Can you imagine if you never
cleaned your bedding because it didn’t look dirty? Gross! The
same can be said about your carpets. Cleaning
them professionally maintains the overall
cleanliness of your indoor living environment,
sanitizes the carpet, reduces allergens and
