A Compelling Work Portraying the 36th President in His Own Words
Public Papers of the Presidents of the United States
LYNDON B. JOHNSON
Containing the Public Messages, Speeches,
and Statements of the President
America’s brief illusion of “Camelot” in the nation’s capitol came to a crashing halt with the assassination of
President John Fitzgerald Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. As the 35th president breathed his last in Dallas,
Lyndon Baines Johnson was being sworn into office aboard a plane bound for Washington, DC. Much of
Johnson’s five-year tenure as president would be marked by the escalating Vietnam War, as the Warren
Commission plodded through its comprehensive investigation into Kennedy’s death and rumors of
conspiracies.
Johnson’s struggle with a divisive war and other difficulties throughout the turbulent 1960s is documented in
numerous official papers. The work is arranged chronologically in two books for each year of Johnson’s
presidency. Originally published through the U.S. GPO through the Public Papers of the Presidents series,
Hein’s acid- free reprint edition contains the papers, speeches and public statements of President Johnson that
were issued by the Office of the Press Secretary during his presidency, from November 22, 1963 through
January 20, 1969.
The Public Papers of the Presidents Series was established in 1957 by the Office of the Federal Register,
National Archives and Records Administration in response to a recommendation by the National Historical
Publications Commission, that had noted a lack of uniform compilations of messages and papers of the U.S.
presidents before this time. Concise Tables of Contents, listings of items and chronological papers, in addition
to tables of appendices and indexes make this set fully researchable and an asset to Legal History and
Presidential History Collections.

THE WARREN COMMISSION HEARINGS
Official Title: Hearings Before the President’s Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy
- and -
THE WARREN REPORT
Official Title: Report of the President’s Commission on the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy
On November 29, 1963, U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Executive Order No. 11130 (28 Fed.
Reg. 12789), creating a Commission headed by Chief Justice Earl Warren to discover, evaluate, and
report all the facts relating to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the public shooting
death of the man charged with the assassination, Lee Harvey Oswald.
After a thorough investigation in 1964, the Warren Commission published a comprehensive, 26volume set containing evidence and testimony related to the extraordinary events and circumstances
surrounding the Kennedy assassination. Based on this testimony, the Commission released its
highly controversial Report later that year, disclosing its findings and igniting a public furor that
led to the publication of hundreds of books and articles attempting to disprove its conclusions.
Now, William S. Hein & Co., Inc. has reprinted both the complete Warren Commission
Hearings set and the Warren Report, making these titles available on long-life, acid-free
paper for the first time!
In addition, although the Warren Commission was not a judicial body, it is often credited as the
impetus for several advancements in the United States court system, such as its specific
recommendation for the creation of ethical standards regarding trial publicity, so that interference
with both criminal investigations could be avoided and the rights of defendants could be preserved.
The Hearings and The Report of the Warren Commission endure as valuable resources in studying
both the tragic events of November 22, 1963 and the growth of American political and judicial
systems during this time. By reprinting these important titles on acid-free paper, Hein has
assured that these significant works will be available for many years!
