Dear Parents,
SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER 2016
Welcome back to the new school academic year. I hope you are feeling refreshed after your
summer holidays, and the children are ready for another exciting and enjoyable year.
We offer a special welcome our new reception children and new pupils who have joined us in
other year groups. We also welcome our new staff members Miss Rowe, who is our new
senior teacher who will be in Year 3, and Miss Kutsarova who will be supporting in the
reception class.
All of the children look very smart for the start of term, thank you. Your great efforts are
very much appreciated. Please encourage the children to take responsibility for their uniform
and to remember that if they are wearing a shirt they must have a tie. Children may wear
their summer t-shirts for this half term without a tie. Please remember to check your child’s
name is clearly marked on all of their uniform. There are lots of new jumpers around and we
do not want them to get lost!
May I remind you that boots of any style are not permitted at school. The school uniform is
very clear, the only footwear allowed are sensible black school shoes which come below the
ankle.
School Lunches
As you are aware we have been awarded “Healthy School” status. This means all junior
snacks and lunch box choices must follow the healthy options. Please support us in this
initiative to help the future health of your children. All infant children receive fruit each
morning and therefore do not require a snack. Infant children receive a free school lunch and
water to drink or you may, if you wish, provide a packed lunch. Water is always available in
the dining hall. Dinner tickets will be available to purchase on Monday and Wednesday
mornings from 8.30 a.m. to 8.50 a.m. from the reception area, junior children wishing to have
a school dinner must have their ticket clearly marked with their name on the day. Infant
children who require a drink must purchase drink tickets at the same time.
The Havering Catering Service will shortly be moving on to a cashless system where cash
will not be accepted in the kitchen. They will be sending information to you when the system
is due to start in La Salette.
There will be a special “Back To School” lunch on Tuesday, 20th September. There will be
further special lunches coming up this term so please watch out for details.
Building Fund
As a voluntary aided school, we must pay a proportion of maintenance costs ourselves - the
building fund and fundraising events contribute towards these bills. We need to raise 10% of
all maintenance and building costs which is why we have a building fund. It is thanks to your
contributions that we can maintain our school to such a good standard. All catholic schools
are funded in this way and it is not fair for the parishioners to subsidise us.
The building fund is a termly voluntary contribution for the school building fund. Governors
invite parents to make a voluntary contribution of £10 per term or £30 for the year if you
have one child in the school, or £15 per term or £45 for a family. The Building Fund can be
paid direct to the school through the ParentPay site, this has the advantage that you are able to
check your own payments and keep a record. You can make the one payment for the whole
year if you wish or each term.
We are no longer able to accept cheques in payment for any reason. All payments must be
made by Parent pay. If you need to send money into the school it would be appreciated if
you would enclose it within an envelope and mark the outside with your child’s name, year
group and what the money is for. This would help tremendously with the early morning
administration.
On Monday, 19th September, to celebrate La Salette Day there will be a school Mass at
11a.m. – please come along and join us.
The school day begins at 8.50 a.m. and children should be in the playground ready to line up.
A teacher will be on duty to supervise the children in the playground at 8.45 a.m. It is very
important that the children are in the playground in time to line up as it can upset the children
if they are late and do not start the day with their classmates.
After School Netball and Football
There will be a netball club for Y5/6 girls on a Monday and y3/4 girls on a Tuesday. There
will be football sessions on Thursday for Y3/4 and Friday forY5/6. All sessions will finish
promptly at 4.35pm. These sessions will be run by Premier Sports - you can find more
details on their website: premiersport.org there is a link on our website. Unfortunately there
was some confusion with the leaflets that were sent out!
Meeting with Teachers
Please be kind enough to make an appointment through the office if you wish to speak to
your child’s teacher, unless it is a genuine emergency. Parents should not try to see teachers
prior to school as they are very busy with the day’s preparation and cannot give you the
attention you need. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Year 5 Parents
I have been asked to inform all year 5 parents that the application for senior schools brochure
is now on the Havering website at www.havering.gov.uk/admissions.
School Uniform
While we are still enjoying the warm weather, may I just remind you that only black or navy
plain school coats or the green embroidered school coat may be worn, also only school hats
so please keep all the fancy and fun hats for out of school time.
Inset Day
The school will be closed for an in-service training day on Friday 21st October 2016.
I attach a copy of the School Calendar for the year (further In-set days to be advised once
agreed).
Wishing you all a very happy and successful year and thanking you for all the support you
give us in so many ways.
Yours sincerely
A Fletcher
Head Teacher
