Dear Parent/Carer/Student,
Sixth Form Geography Iceland Expedition, Easter 2018
We are organising a four day trip to Iceland during the 2018 Easter holidays. The trip will
leave on 3rd April and return on 6th April.
Amongst other things, the trip will involve swimming in a geothermal pool (the Blue
Lagoon), visiting the lava plains where the North American and European tectonic plates
meet, seeing the wonderful double-tier waterfall at Gullfoss, viewing the geyser and hot
springs at Geysir, visiting a geothermal power station, not to mention looking at real
volcanoes and walking on a glacier. This will be an opportunity to visit some world class
geographical features. We feel this trip will enrich and enhance the geography studied in
Year 12 and 13.
The cost of the trip is £935, which is dependant on sufficient students participating. We
will be staying in a mixture of youth hostels and guest houses and all transport,
accommodation and most meals are included in the price.
If you are interested in your son/daughter taking part on this trip we require an initial
deposit of £100. Please make your payment via Parentpay in the usual way and complete
and return the reply slip to the red box by Friday 7th April. If paying by cheque, please
make payable to Sandringham School.
It is imperative that payment deadlines for this trip are strictly adhered to so that the
necessary payments can be made to the tour operator and ensure that adequate numbers
are secured. If payments are not received by the instalment dates we would have no
choice but to remove your son/daughter from the trip.
Please note that by accepting your son/daughter’s place on this trip you are undertaking
to make full payment by the given deadlines. Please also note that Discover the World do
not differ from other tour companies with regard to cancellations and cancellation fees will
apply.
Please note that this is an extra-curricular trip and is not a compulsory requirement for
students taking A-level Geography. There is a compulsory field trip to Dorset for all Year
12 Geography students, which is a core part of their A-level studies, the cost of which is
approximately £240. All students must attend this and students in receipt of a Sixth Form
bursary will be eligible for support for the Dorset trip. You will receive a separate letter
regarding this.

We will advise you of an information evening later in the term, which will provide further
details about the Iceland trip.
Yours sincerely,
Katriona Towell
