SECTION 3
Lesson 11
Good Study Habits
Good study habits are important. They help you in many
ways.
1. Keep your desk in order. Have a place for everything
and keep everything in place. You will know where your
papers are when you need them. You can find your
pencils, erasers, crayons, or scissors quickly.
2. Keep your mind on your work. Don’t think about
what Dad is doing or what you will do after school. Don’t
look around to see what others are doing, or listen to
noises inside or outside your classroom.
40
Lesson 11
3. Be quiet. Open your desk quietly. Walk quietly. Do
not rustle papers or drop pencils or books. It is easier to
study when everyone works quietly.
4. Be on time. Have your lessons finished when your
teacher wants them. Be in your classroom on time.
5. Listen when your teacher or others talk to you. You
waste your time when you don’t listen. You waste other
people’s time too.

have only one vowel sound. A one-syllable word has one
vowel sound. A two-syllable word has two vowel sounds. A
three-syllable word has three vowel sounds.

More Good Study Habits
Follow directions carefully. You will make mistakes if
you don’t follow directions. Look for direction words like
above, under, underline, and circle.
Proofread your work. Look for missing or wrong
punctuation marks. Check for capital letters and misspelled
words. Make sure you wrote neatly and answered all the
questions.
Get plenty of sleep, good food, and exercise. You
cannot study well if you are tired and hungry. Fresh air and
exercise helps you study better.
Keep a list of things that are hard to remember. Put it
where you can review it often. Talk to your friends about
the things you study. Learn as much as you can.
Be happy when you study. It helps you try harder and
enjoy your work more.
