JOKE OF THE WEEK………
A Cajun named, Jean Paul, moved to Texas and bought a donkey from an old farmer
named Ben for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.
The next day, Ben drove up and said, "Sorry, but I have some bad news.
The donkey died."
"Well, then, just give me the money back," said Jean Paul
"Can't do that. I went and spent it already." Replied Ben
"OK, then. Just unload the donkey," said Jean Paul.
"What ya going to do with him?" asked Ben.
"I'm going to raffle him off," said Jean Paul.
"You can't raffle off a dead donkey!" uttered Ben.
"Sure can. Watch me. I just won't tell that he's dead," said Jean Paul.
A month later Ben met up with the Cajun and asked, "What happened
with that dead donkey?"
"I raffled him off, I did. I sold 500-hunderd tickets at two dollars apiece
and made a profit of $898," said Jean Paul.
"Didn't anyone complain?" inquired Ben.
"Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back,” said Jean Paul.

WORD OF THE WEEK…………
Pratfall
\PRAT-fawl\
-
a fall on the buttocks
-
a humiliating mishap or blunder
noun
EXAMPLES
"I didn't really fall! I was doing a silly pratfall, and the press said I actually fell over,
but I didn't. Just one of my clowning things." — From an interview with Emma
Thompson in Newsday, December 11, 2013
"For the last two months, our healthcare.gov guinea pig Alice has had one
frustrating moment after another. She visited the site repeatedly since its series of
rolling pratfalls started Oct. 1. It never worked." — From an op-ed by John Dickerson
in the Columbia Daily Tribune (Columbia, Missouri), December 8, 2013
DID YOU KNOW?
The human posterior has been given a number of designations over the centuries,
some not acceptable in polite company. "Prat," a
slang term with only slightly indecorous
overtones, has been used in reference to the
backside since the 16th century. It wasn't until
the 1930s, however, that falling on one's prat
gave rise to the term "pratfall." The word first
cropped up in the lingo of comedy theater,
where a pratfall is often part of a slapstick
routine. It wasn't long before we gave the word
its extended sense of "blunder." Now, with "prat"
rarely used as a synonym of "derriere" anymore,
"pratfall" is as apt to suggest getting a pie in the
face as landing on one's behind.

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES PRESENTS:
“GANDHI”
7:00 in the Community Room
This awe-inspiring biopic about
Mahatma
Gandhi
-the
diminutive lawyer who stood up
against British rule in India and
became an international symbol
of
nonviolence
and
understanding
-brilliantly
underscores the difference one
person can make.
A Review………………..
No doubt one of the very best
historical and biographical films
ever made. Gandhi, as portrayed
by Ben Kingsley, is completely
accessible and lovable. The man
had important things to say, and
he did so in little ways. Don't
worry, this is not a preachy film,
unless you consider a film about
someone who will go to any
lengths to live by his basic
principles, preachy. Mohandas K.
Gandhi is an inspiration to all of
us, especially those of us who call
ourselves Christian and see how this little half-clothed man, a Hindu, practiced the
teachings of Jesus more than most of us. No wonder Martin Luther King was
inspired by his teachings and life

FROM THE SUGGESTION BOX
A note was received
emphasizing the need for a
Weekend Volunteer presence at
the front desk to assist firsttime guests, the UPS and the
Rite Aid deliveries. A sign up
sheet will be placed at the desk.
Another notes suggests making
hour Volunteer shifts available
along with creating an on-call
list of willing substitutes. It
was also suggested that training
be provided along with being
supported by a reference
manual.
A request was received for a new Member history --- and if this is referring to our
‘Year Book’ I have good news as I have been informed that updates have been
completed and work is about to proceed to add all the changes since the last
update.
Special thanks were extended to Brad for making positive changes in the Dining
Experience – and that it shows by the greater number of Members participating.
A suggestion that it is time to take a look at the pool water balance.
Question raised as to which Staff can park out front and who needs to park out
back.

CLOSING NOTES…………….
Greetings All -----------This morning I was pleasantly surprised to find that our own Rev. Terry Thomason
was the featured Preacher at a local church. Terry was ably supported by Nancy
who did an equally masterful job with the Children’s Story --- never once letting the
inevitable disruptions cause her be flustered. It was also wonderful to see so many
MBCC Members in attendance to either root Terry on or wanting to be present to
bear witness to any theological mistakes he might make. Terry did a wonderful job
that was very much appreciated by the ‘full house’ that was present!
And now for a little preaching of my own. I believe that we all have a spiritual side
and that while how we experience that spiritual side will vary for each of us --- that
it is important to find a way to nurture that side. I believe that we need to maintain
this spiritual health in much the same way that we maintain our physical, mental
and emotional health ---- by exercise!
For our mental or intellectual health that exercise might be from reading books.
Emotional exercise is more difficult but can involve our deliberately working to
improve our patience and our tolerance. For spiritual exercise I would encourage
you to find a setting of your
choice --- be that traditional
like a church or a synagogue
– or non-traditional such as
with a Yoga group. It can
be fun to go exploring!
What better time in your
life than right now to
explore what goes on with
different religious
traditions?
Have a Great Week ------------- Howie
