Administrative and Support Facilities Master Plan/Consolidation

Administrative and Support Facilities Master Plan/Consolidation Study for
Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), Albuquerque, New Mexico
The Albuquerque Public Schools Facilities Master Plan
(APS FMP) prepared by Architectural Research Consultants,
Incorporated (ARC) guides all capital improvements for
this 90,000 student school district. Recognizing that aging
administrative and support facilities also require capital
investment, ARC was asked to assess these needs for inclusion
in the overall capital plan.
ARC conducted a systematic assessment of the physical needs
of about 600,000 GSF in 27 facilities located on 10 sites that
support the administrative, instructional and support needs
of the district. In addition, ARC prepared a comprehensive
database tied to floor plans of how each facility is used.
Total capital needs of ~$63 million were identified, of which
about $18 million are considered high priority needs. This
information will be added to other FMP data for consideration
in upcoming bond and mill levies.
Building upon the orginal Administrative Facilities Master
Plan. ARC conducted a study to assess the feasibility of
consolidating district facilities. The goals of the study were to:
• clearly identify and communicate issues associated with
existing APS administrative facilities.
• identify alternatives for administrative consolidation.
• clearly articulate (and quantify, where possible) benefits
and costs for implementing administrative consolidation
alternatives.
• identify preliminary recommendations for possible
inclusion in the next APS FMP Capital strategy.
• present findings in a way that are easily understandable to
a wide variety of potential audiences.
