and dignity, by being able to remain living in their own homes.
This can be achieved, if the Auckland DHB allocated more funding and more hours
for homecare support services.
No matter how dependent or independent, an elderly or disabled person may be,
they should still have the right to choose to remain living in their own home, with
unlimited homecare support services made available, as opposed to being placed
into a resthome or private hospital.
Security should be affordable, if not free, for the elderly, while they are living in their
own home. No elderly or disabled person in the community should ever feel alone.

their families and whānau. She has been National Womens' Hospital General
Manager and a director of Auckland CCO Watercare. Cath chaired the recent
merger of 2 of NZs largest mental health NGOs.
On the ADHB Board Cath would advocate for the consumer voice (her family have
had 30+ hospital admissions in 14 years) and for mental health services to be the
best they can be. She brings an unerring respect for ADHB clinicians and ancillary
staff, and an active history working with Maori, Pasifika and other cultures to address
health concerns collaboratively.

training the managers and leaders of the future, gaining a PhD in organisational
psychology in the process.
I would bring a mix of skills and experience to Auckland DHB: a disciplined scientific
background with healthcare experience, a sound practical appreciation of how
people interact together, senior management experience ranging from production
management, through research roles and general management in industry to head
of a department in a university.
My aims are: place the needs of the patient and community at the center rather than
those of the health system; aim for a system that works for the health of the

Nurse, Middlemore Hospital, she's a successful health entrepreneur and
experienced health sector director in public health services, maternity, and

governance decisions. Currently Deputy Chairman of ADHB, she'll build on past
achievements in the DHB and drive for change through increasing the role of

outcomes. I seek re-election to follow-through planned and new initiatives to further

I have been the patron of Raeburn House (North Shore Community Health Network)
since its inception. This voluntary sector health promotion organisation receives
grants from Waitemata DHB and other sources to support its work. I hold various
positions at Auckland University of Technology including Pro Vice-Chancellor (North
Shore), Dean of the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences and Co-director
of the National Institute for Public Health and Mental Health Research. The Faculty
provides a range of public health, clinical, rehabilitation and related services. It has a
memorandum of understanding with Waitemata DHB which includes a commitment
to work together to ensure the health of the communities they jointly serve. To this
end the University and DHB collaborate on a number of health delivery, education,
workforce development and research projects. They also contract services from
each other. The Faculty also has close working relationships with other DHBs and
major health providers which sometimes give rise to conflicts of interest in relation to
Waitemata DHB.
I am a Board member/Director of the AUT Millennium Trust, responsible for capital
development and oversight of high performance sport and community sport, health
and fitness facilities and programmes. I am also a Board member of the Rotary
National Science and Technology Trust and Brain Research New Zealand and
member of advisory groups to Health Workforce New Zealand and TePou. Health
Workforce New Zealand was established by Government to drive innovation in
workforce development and ensure that the country has the right mix and number of
health professionals and workers. TePou is the national provider of mental health
workforce development programmes. The foregoing organisations have varying
degrees of engagement with DHBs, occasionally giving rise to real or perceived
conflicts of interest.
I have played a role in the establishment, development and governance of various
voluntary sector organisations including the Health Promotion Forum, Alzheimer's
Foundation, Mental Health Foundation, Refugees as Survivors Centres, Compulsive
Gambling Society (since developed into the Problem Gambling Foundation), Victim
Support, Women's Refuge, Phobic Trust, AIDS Foundation and 60s-up Movement.
While no longer holding office in these and other organisations that I have had close
and often long-term relationships with, I retain an interest in their work and in some
cases have ongoing formal or informal links. Some of these organisations may from
time-to-time receive financial and/or other support from the DHB to assist their work.

I am an Associate in Strategic Science, a private sector company based in Canada,
that brings together scientific research in health and other fields to inform solutions to
complex health and social issues. Although primarily working in North America and
Asia it is intended that services will be extended to other parts of the world including
New Zealand. I am closely involved with a new Charitable Trust that will officially
launch within the next few weeks. It has a formal relationship with AUT. This Trust,
based on a successful UK organisation, plans to provide a nation-wide support and
befriending service to older people, with a view to reducing loneliness and suicide
and promoting wellbeing. It will work with DHBs and may seek financial support from

As a doctor of chiropractic, I have always had a strong appreciation for health,
wellness and family. Having worked in both New Zealand and Australia, I recognise
a new paradigm in healthcare needs to be considered, especially with a looming age
wave. I believe prevention is better than cure and I support access to primary health
services in the community. As an active health professional I will continue to serve
the community while working hard to improve the efficiency of service delivery. I see

Shore, free wifi in hospitals and smoking cessation programmes.

is letting too many people fall through the cracks and in our overworked doctors,
nurses, caregivers and health professionals struggling with the burden of having to

My work as a parliamentary staffer, as a researcher for the Health Promotion Agency
and as an advocate for medical students has given me different perspectives on

The population explosion in Auckland is putting severe strain on our health system.
Planning for new facilities closer to high density areas will be essential to keep up

must not be pushed to the back of the queue. Budgets are stretched to the limit.
Waiting times will get longer and longer without action. I will fight for improved
