NEWSLETTER FS 1 - Barnsole Primary School

Information / Reminders
We know that sometimes children can require a change of clothing
so we would kindly remind parents / carers to provide a spare set of
named clothing in your child’s bag each time they attend Bright
Stars. If you have borrowed any clothing, would you please return
as soon as possible as we are running short of spare clothes for
children to change into.
Now that the winter is upon us, please ensure you also provide
appropriate outdoor clothing for your child so they can participate in
all of our amazing outdoor activities. Please ensure all items of
clothing including coats, hats, scarves, gloves and boots / shoes are
clearly named so we can find their correct owners at the end of the
session!
Thank you for your support!
The staff and children at Bright Stars warmly welcome parents,
carers and grandparents who would like to attend a session and
help. Why not experience for yourself the wide range of activities
and learning opportunities children can access? We will even provide you with a hot drink! If you are interested, please speak to
Gwenda for details.

Welcome to Term 3. We hope you had a good Christmas and are looking
forward to an exciting new year!
This term in Bright Stars our focus for learning is ‘Time’. This will include
looking at the four seasons and will be taught through the following
activities:









Talking about the New Year and seeing what children understand
about it, did they see the fireworks in London on television?
Firework painting and making the noises of fireworks
Looking at numbers and dates of special events
Creating a birthday board for children to identify the date of their
birthday
Looking at clocks and watches
Listening to the story of Cinderella and Mr Wolf’s Week
Music and dance
Celebrating Chinese New Year.
Creating a wall display of the four seasons
As we know, the first five years of a child’s life are crucial in shaping who
they are, as well as being a critical point in their development. We aim to
work in partnership with you as parents to enable your children to be ready
for their next stage in education. Areas of development include:
Personal and Social Skills: this includes how they relate to others,
manage their feelings and their growing independence.
Physical Development: children need to develop their whole body which
they can do through play opportunities both indoors and outside, whatever
the weather with suitable clothing!
Communication and Language: children’s ability to talk, listen to
others and understand what others are saying is a skill which
underpins all other aspects of their learning.
You can help by:







Playing games at home which involve taking turns
Creating opportunities for children to play with their peers e.g.
have friends round or go to the park with other
families.
Encourage children to be independent and do things for
themselves e.g. feed themselves using knives and forks, put
their own coat on, go the toilet unaided
Allow children extra time to exert bursts of energy; let them
run around, dance to music, carry items around to fill and
empty
Talk together - watch television programmes together then
talk about what you have seen, talk about the games they are
playing, discuss food when you are eating at mealtimes, talk
to them when they are in the bath. Remember, “It’s good to
talk!”
Sing songs and nursery rhymes. Play simple ‘I Spy’ games.
Encourage listening skills by taking it in turns to speak and
then listen during your conversations
