This month the topic is Types of Employment and Termination of Employment. This will be covered in two parts with part 1 this month and part 2 next month. Types of Employment - Employees under this award will be employed in one of the following catergories: * full time employment- 38 hours a week or an average of 38 hours per week * part time employment - less than 38 hours a week or an average of 38 hours per week and who has reasonably predictable hours of work * casual employment - one who is engaged and paid as such but will not include a part-time or full time employee At the time of engagement an employer will inform each employee the basis of their employment. An employer may direct an employee to carry out such duties as are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training, consistent From Julaine’s Desk Moving forward with CLA policies. CLA have recently procured a number of policies and procedures that are reflected of current standards and practices. Why does CLA think that we require additional policies as we head towards the implementation of NDIS? * A Policy is a statement of agreed intent that clearly and unequivocally sets out an organisation’s views with respect to a particular matter. It is a set of principles or rules that provide a definite direction for an organisation. * Policies assist in defining what must be done with a procedure which is a clear step by step method for implementing an organisation’s policy or responsibility. * So staff and families can have a framework for actions that help them get on with the job they need to do. * So staff and families don’t have to keep on discussing and rediscussing the same issues every time they arise – one thought out decision can be applied to many similar cases – efficiency. * So legal and other requirements can be met * A tool in quality improvement. Unwritten policies and procedures often lead to confusion and conflict.
