The National Aboriginal
Hockey Championships is
coming to Membertou! The
tournament is scheduled to
take place from May 1-14,
2018, at the Membertou Sport
& Wellness Centre.
The tournament will feature
elite bantam and midget-aged
Canadian Aboriginal hockey
players. Along with a showcase of their athletic abilities,
the tournament also aims to
foster cultural unity and pride.

POST-SECONDARY / METS /STAIRS FUNDING DEADLINE: MAY 26, 2017
Post-secondary funding deadline is Friday, May 26th, 2017, for new and returning students.
Applications can be picked up at the Band Office. The deadline to apply for METS and
STAIRS funding for September courses is also Friday, May 26, 2017. This includes NSCC
and other private colleges. If you are in a 2-3 year program, you are required to apply for

NOTICE RE: BURNING GARBAGE AT HOME
Membertou community members are asked to NOT burn any garbage at home. Following several
complaints from community members, Chief and Council request that the community follow this
request as there are health concerns associated with burning garbage. Community members have
also complained that the smoke and smell are a nuisance.

NS PROVINCIAL ELECTION: MAY 30!
The 40th Nova Scotia general election is on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Voting takes place starting at
8:00 am and ends at 8:00 pm. Membertou community members will vote at the Membertou Trade &

BASKETBALL CAPE BRETON (BCB) 2ND ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
BCB will be holding its 2nd Annual Golf Tournament on Friday June 16th at Lingan Golf and Country Club. We are asking for local businesses or parents to enter a team ($400 for a team of 4) This
includes a supper included from Flavor 19 as well as many prizes.
If you are unable to enter a team we would also offer an opportunity to sponsor a hole for $200 we
would have your Business logo or any promotional material on display for all golfers to see.
Any other donations received will be used for prizes for the golf tournament. Any donation would
