A two-part question
The first task is focused on close language analysis of an extract of approximately 30 lines.
The second task is focused on how a theme reflected in the extract is explored elsewhere in the
play.
Closed book (texts are not allowed in the examination).
Questions will focus on:
1. Developing and sustaining independent interpretations of whole text supporting them
with detailed textual references
2. explaining motivation, events and the relationship between actions and events,
3. Analysing the impact of style, language, structure and form
4. Relating texts to their social and historical contexts, and to the literary traditions.
5. selecting and emphasising key points;
6. Using textual references, including quotations, to support and illustrate interpretations
* Answers are assessed for critical analytical style and informed personal
response.

TIME: 1 Hour 50 minutes

The second part of the question may focus on different aspects of the text, requiring exploration of
one or more of the following areas: plot, setting(s),character(s), theme(s)

ONE question comparing a named poem from the poetry anthology collection, enclosed in
the question paper, and one poem of choice. The named poem will be shown in the question
paper.
