our values
We value and honor the fundamental
sanctity and worthiness of all human
beings, Tselem Elohim.
We demonstrate dignity and respect in
every aspect of our work, Chessed.
We put into practice a commitment to
heal and repair the world, Tikkun Olam.
We operate with fiscal efficiency and
integrity, Haginut Ba’asakim.
chair’s message
Dear Friends of JFS,
This has been a remarkable year for Jewish Family Service which has included
many hours of Board involvement as well as a growing group of volunteers
engaged in diverse activities. We are so proud of our dedicated staff whose
professionalism shines under the visionary leadership of our President and CEO,
Bob Marmor.
Our Springfield locations, on Lenox Street, Sumner Avenue and our office on the
Springfield Jewish Community Campus are bustling with activity. Because of the
care and concern of our community, we are able to respond to the ongoing needs
of both the Jewish community and the community at large through counseling,
eldercare services, the resettlement of new Americans, the urgent economic
response initiative and a whole host of other activities.
One of the newest developments for Jewish Family Service has been the creation
of an interactive website. We are very proud of the way in which people can
now visit us electronically. We have also initiated an e-newsletter, “Community
Matters”. We hope that both of these offerings make it easier to learn about JFS
and the work that we do.
On behalf of everyone at JFS, thank you for your continued support of our agency.
We are truly grateful.
Sincerely,
jfs board & officers

our programs
community programs
counseling programs
In response to changing needs and demographics, we are developing
new, innovative services and programs that address traditional and
contemporary Jewish family life. Cutting edge social services include
outreach to Jewish individuals and families. We offer support groups,
educational programs, lectures, classes, workshops and new ways to
make or strengthen Jewish connections.
We assist families and individuals who are
coping with difficult problems, challenges
and every day life transitions. Our caring
and compassionate professional staff can
work with you to address personal loss,
depression, trauma, relationship issues or
other troubling circumstances in your life.
We offer a sliding fee scale and accept most
major insurances, including MassHealth
and Medicare.
315 individuals enriched by Jewish Life programming.
older adult programs
Elder care is a hallmark program at JFS; people count on us as impartial
experts to help them solve problems for the health and wellness of their
loved ones or themselves. Elders and their families look to us for support
and resources because families now live further apart. The changing
face of our community requires a multitude of services including
guardianship, geriatric care management and crisis intervention.
602 families received guidance and
62 frail elders were cared for through guardianship.
volunteer programs
We believe that healing the world begins with one person at a time. Get
involved with JFS; bring your talents, skills and interests. We have short
and long term volunteer opportunities: good cheer phone calls to elders,
helping a refugee family navigate their new life, graphic design and
video editing - and that’s just the beginning. Volunteering with us is
ideal for people who would enjoy working from a Jewish base for the
greater well-being of the entire community. Join us!
945 individuals received compassionate
care to help them solve their problems
refugee resettlement and
immigrant programs
We welcome refugees from around the world who are fleeing religious
and political persecution. Our agency is nationally recognized as having
a premier resettlement program, working with the Hebrew Immigrant
Aid Society (HIAS) and the U.S. Department of State, to settle refugees
in our Springfield community – their new home. Our innovative
programs and comprehensive services assist refugees in becoming
engaged U.S. citizens. We also offer citizenship and naturalization
services to immigrants with legal permanent residency.
205 refugees from around the world were resettled and
960 individuals were helped with resettlement programs.
