2nd Grade Reading News High Frequency Words Theme 4—Focus on Genre: Biography Dear Parents, To inform families at home about what we are teaching in class, the 2nd Grade is sending a Reading Newsletter. This is to let you know what reading skills we will target. We are reading a selection of biographies. We are reading The Ellen Ochoa Story, President Theodore Roosevelt, and Wilma Rudolph: Olympic Track Champion. A biography is a true story about a person’s life. It gives facts about what the person did. It tells about events that happened to the person. Our comprehension skill is Understanding Biography. Students will discuss the elements of a biography. Students will have a comprehension strategy of evaluate. Students will look at the pictures and think what they will learn about the person they are going to read about. read and write words with endings tion and ture. The vocabulary skill targeted is abbreviations.
