Theme 4—Focus on Genre: Biography
Dear Parents,
To inform families at
home about what we are
teaching in class, the 2nd
Grade is sending a Reading
Newsletter. This is to let
you know what reading skills
we will target.
We are reading a selection of biographies. We
are reading The Ellen
Ochoa Story, President
Theodore Roosevelt, and
Wilma Rudolph: Olympic
Track Champion. A biography is a true story about a
person’s life. It gives facts
about what the person did.
It tells about events that
happened to the person.
Our comprehension
skill is Understanding Biography. Students will discuss the elements of a biography.
Students will have a
comprehension strategy of
evaluate. Students will look
at the pictures and think
what they will learn about
the person they are going
to read about.
