Hey UTMAS!
The 2011/2012 Executives
Where did the year go? I can’t believe the semester is over and
summer is here (well, not summer weather, but hopefully that
will show up soon). In this issue, the last issue of Between the
Lines 2010-2011, you’ll get to meet your UTMAS executive
for next year. They have a ton of ideas to make this coming
year the best ever for UTMAS, and so I really hope that every
one of you will get involved! I hope you’ll all join me in
congratulating everyone on their election wins!
On a personal note, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who
helped to make UTMAS such a success this year. From movie
nights to a meet and greet to the undergraduate symposium in
March, it was great meeting all of you at our events. Please
continue to come out and get involved next year, you’re the
reason that UTMAS exists!
Without further ado, I’m going to turn the rest of the issue
over to the new executive, I know they won’t disappoint! I’m
graduating and will be doing a Master of Arts in
bioarchaeology at the University of Western Ontario in the
fall, but you may see me visit for some of the awesome Anthro
events next year!
Have a great summer everyone!

Introducing the UTMAS 2011-2012 Executives
Hi Everyone! My name is Jose Sanchez and I am in my final year as a
specialist in Biological Anthropology. Specifically, my interests include
Juvenile Osteology, Growth and Development, Forensic Anthropology,
and Paleopathology. I enjoy travelling, meeting new people, and
watching documentaries. I am super excited to be this upcoming year's
President for the UTMAS! We have a great team and I am looking
forward to start planning for events. I encourage everyone to talk to all
of the executive members. We want your input on the types of events
you want to see. Along with the other executives, we will make sure
that your 2011-2012 school year will be great and helpful for your
academic success!
My name is Natalia Harhaj, I am a fourth year student working towards
a double major in Anthropology and Linguistics, specifically interested
in Medical Anthropology. I enjoy travelling, meeting new people, and
discovering different cultures. As well, I enjoy volunteering my time to
charitable and humanitarian efforts. I have sixteen years of dance
experience in ballet, jazz, and Ukrainian dance. As well, I am an avid
hiker and enjoy exploring new sceneries. Additionally, I enjoy reading
books on various topics and watching great movies (like Forest Gump
& Rocky). I am very excited to be this year’s vice- president for
UTMAS!
Hello Everyone! My name is Maggie and I am currently moving
towards my fourth year as a specialist in Anthropology. I am really
excited to be a part of the society, especially in my final year of school.
I believe I have gained enough experience throughout my past years of
study to successfully participate and engage in the UTMAS. I am a
very outgoing, hardworking, organized and responsible person, and
seriously take any duties assigned to me, and complete them to the
best of my abilities. I wanted to become a member of the society
because I am willing to contribute as much as I can in order to make
this a great experience, not only for myself, but also students who
share the same attitude towards Anthropology. My interests include
forensics, osteology as well as human evolution. I really hope that the
upcoming year will be a blast to all Anthropology students! I am
looking forward to meeting all of you at our future events!

Hey everyone! My name is Megan Hempel and I’m a
second year student with a specialist in Anthropology and
a minor in Biology. My particular interests are in human
osteology and mortuary archaeology. This past year I
have had the opportunity to participate in many of the
great events run by UTMAS, and I am excited to be able
to contribute more as an executive member. I have been
involved with all sorts of clubs and societies throughout
my academic career. I am hardworking, enthusiastic,
organized and creative. I will work hard to promote
UTMAS and all of its activities and events. I hope to find
new ways to spread the word about upcoming
opportunities and will work enthusiastically to promote the society to more and more
students. I’d love to hear any ideas on what you would like to see to make UTMAS even
better. I hope to make next year a fun, exciting and memorable year for everyone.
Hi everyone! My name is Angel McRae and I am very excited to be
your senior representative for the UTM anthropology society. I am
currently finishing up my Biological Anthropology specialist degree.
My academic interests include forensic anthropology, radiology,
primatology and paleopathology. One of my greatest enjoyments
throughout my four years at UTM was the forensic anthropology
field school, it was a great experience and I suggest anyone
interested in this field look into taking the course! I think it is
fantastic that the 2010-2011 executive council has brought back the
anthropology society with such high standards and I will do my best
to keep this society running and promote the anthropology
discipline!
My name is Lauren Pryce and I’m going to be going into
my third year here at UTM. I’m really interested in
Biological Anthropology more specifically Osteology and
Primatology. I’m really excited to be the Junior
Representative for the UTMAS for the coming year
because I feel like it’s a great way to get involved with the
community here at UTM. Also, I think that it will be a great
way for me to make new friendships that will hopefully last
for a long time. I currently live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
but I am Canadian. What I like to do in my free time is play
video games, watch TV, hang out with my friends and
family, and riding horses. I can’t wait to get started and I’m
really looking forward not only to what this year has in
store for me, but also what it has in store for the rest of the
society.
