Union County Crisis Assistance Ministry CAM CONNECTION VOLUME 21 JUNE 2013 Union County Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM) provides emergency assistance with housing and utilities to neighbors in need who do not qualify for public assistance. In the month of May, the generosity of our supporters enabled us to assist 65 clients. We provided housing payments for 10 clients, utility payments for 45 clients as well as transportation assistance and food to other clients in need. Our staff also made 479 referrals connecting our clients to other resources. This assistance was made possible by the generosity of individuals, churches, businesses, schools and organizations in our community. Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Soda Bottles The participants in last month’s Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Workshop were given a unique opportunity to start a savings account by decorating a 2 or 3 liter soda bottle with magazine clippings and crafts of their choice. The idea was to use clippings that would inspire them to work toward specific goals they want in life, such as saving for a car, a vacation or simply starting a savings account. They are to place these bottles in an area of their home that will remind them to empty their pockets or purses of extra change each day to see how quickly it can add up. This is the first class that has used the bottles, but we will continue this trend in future classes. If anyone has empty 2 or 3 liter soda bottles that we can use for upcoming classes, please call us or bring them by the office. Credit & financial empowerment seminar ATTENTION ALL GOLFERS!!! We also provide food from our pantry to families receiving little or no public food assistance. These clients depend upon donors who are willing to share from their abundance to fill the gap in their lives. These donations come from individuals, businesses, churches, schools and other organizations. We also obtain funding from grants and various fundraiser activities.
